What do you wear with a leather jacket?

It's my birthday soon and DP has bought me a leather jacket. I'm not sure how I'm going to look as I've never worn one and completely clueless as to what type of tops to wear under it!

Any ideas? Nothing too expensive though :)

What shape?

I wear my biker jacket with pretty much everything tbh but I like it best with casual dresses (over the knee) or skinnies.

Uh, it has a double zip and a narrow collar, not too big.

I live in skinnies anyway so thats a good start! I like long tops, would a jacket at hip length look weird over a top that falls below the bottom?

I think leather jackets go with pretty much everything, i usually wear mine with dresses or if i'm going out then over a nice top and jeans. I also have a brown one with a lovely aviator style neck (not sure this is the right description ) which doesn't go with as much as the black but does look lovely too. i'd love grey one, now...

I'll have a search round the net to see what type of dresses can go with it.

What shoes/boots do you wear with a dress/jacket combo?

A grey one sounds nice, I love grey!

I have way too much time on my hands, but I always debate whether I can wear mine with long-line tops as well (mine is a short, boxy style). I have decided that yes you can, but it looks a bit funny with long-line cardigans - a long top is the same length all the way round obviously, but a cardigan hanging out the back of the jacket looks a bit silly i do it all the time anyway. Look nice with dresses and boots and I like mine a lot with skinnies/leggings, flats and a shirt or loose vest top, with a whacking great scarf round my neck.

JuliesSistersCousinsAuntsCat · 02/02/2013 16:29

Ooh, I do the skinnies, loose vest and huge scarf look! Nice to know it can go with that. clueless about leather

I was/am skeptical but DP has been saying for ages how good one would look on me and I quite fancy a different look so I'm biting the bullet!

I love love love mine! They are the only jacket I've owned before which actually make me feel like my outfit looks better with rather than without. I get so cold that I always end up in heinously unattractive belted coat things, but I think leather jackets look really flattering.

Happy birthday Smile

Agree that long cardigans look silly but long jumpers look fine.

QueefLatina · 02/02/2013 17:24

I wear mine with tight skinny flares and a plain vest top.

I've recently been putting on a fake fur scarf with it which has got a lot of compliments

Thank you Hold :)

From what everyone has said, I think it will go with the majority of my wardrobe.

Thanks you lovely, fashionable people! I'm quite looking forward to wearing it now.
