It had to be done.
Phew that feels better.
Over here crepeys. All very welcome (but only if you're crepey).

I have virtually no monthlies. Gynae obligingly said as I'd have had it in 5 years when I was 48 - I may as well keep it another two years as I would be menopausal - charmed I was Hmm. However only occasional flushes to report and certainly nothing like Cremola so not sure where I am. I need to summon up the courage to go back to gynae.

Stropps - I dream of a nice English school where the teachers do not rip up your copy in front of the whole class if it doesn't pass muster. Yes this is in the primary system.

Off skiing tomorrow - bags all packed so now sitting around waiting to go - DH likes to leave at 5.30 am so we can get round the peripherique before the rush hour. Lots of moaning - especially from the teenage contingent who don't normally make an appearence till 10 am.

hattymattie · 07/03/2013 15:26

Should have finished my first sentence - I have virtually no monthlies because of mirena.

Ooh hattie bonne route! Where are you off to? We usually go to argentiere near chamonix but not this year sadly. Dds got exams and I'm a bit of a wreck.

BTM : want to ask about the HRT
As I've mentioned I'm lined up for a hysterectomy soon( after a catalogue of Gynae doom and gloom over 35 odd years)
Does the HRT control the flushes completely ? Am dreading feeling worse than I actually do nowShock

Blackduck · 07/03/2013 18:39

My dr won't do her unless I am murderous and getting zero sleep - I am apparently as a migraine sufferer a bad candidate.
Stropps bet I could give you a run for your money on the house profundity front Grin

Blackduck · 07/03/2013 18:39

HRT - bloody autocorrect

bigTillyMint · 07/03/2013 18:50

The HRT has
a) made my periods regular and 90% lighter
b) made my periods way less painful (from first starting aged 12, till the DC were conceived and then since DS was about 5, I have had the most horrendous pains - DS's labour was like a bad period!)
c) stopped the night sweats which means that I now get a decent nights sleep
d) helped to lessen the black cloud of PMT which turns me into a witch for about a week before my period (or just the week before they were due but didn't show up since I became perimenopausal before the HRTConfused)

My GP practice have been fab - sent for specialist checks, etc and very happy to prescribe.

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 18:54

Haha BD my autocorrect changed HRT TO HRH - but I caught it just in the nick of time .
< wonders if I will actually be offered it too>
Certainly cannot go on like this:
Off with jumper
Off with scarf
Boiled red face . Huffing puffing
FREEZING !!
On with scarf and Cardi
Apply hottie to feet
Boiled !!
Repeat ad nauseumConfused

bigTillyMint · 07/03/2013 19:00

Cremola, one of my work colleagues is like that! Luckily I didn't get the hot flushes during the day - just at night, which meant I woke up in a pool of sweat 4 or 5 times a night. EEeeeeuuuuwwww!

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 19:10

Yes it is mostly in the evening; not so much when I'm working during the day. Night sweats are incredible and have to change nighty quite often during the night. Also get the confused brain thing where the word just will not come out right! Feel complete dunce somedays. Keep calling dd my sisters name:(
Feel very crepey ATM .
Grin

bigTillyMint · 07/03/2013 19:24

Oh Yes, the word thing! The HRT has not cured that Angry!

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 20:02

BTM - that's mostly good then.
< crosses fingers>

I am toying with the idea if signing up for the mumsnet academy writing course in September. Hmm

S&B news I need a dress for spring
Am looking at item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=111010091574&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=92908769309
Wdyt?

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/03/2013 21:13

Looks orlright, Crem.

I toy with some kind of writing course from time to time, but toying is as far as I get.

DD1 is leaving the house at 0600 tomorrow morning to fly to Delhi. She has just got a load of clothes out of the washing machine that she wants to take with her...

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 21:30

Mrs S why do they do that? Dd always expects her school skirt to be magically dry overnight Sunday - Monday
Have lost count if the number of Monday 6.30 am iron dries I've had to do< rolls eyes>

bigTillyMint · 07/03/2013 22:15

Dress looks like it would be quite a flattering shape.
Hope you have a tumble drier, MrsS - we don't!

Watched the final part of Mayday having caught a bit last night too. All seemed a bit like one of those teenagery-type novelsConfused , but I can't say I'd fancy moving to DorkingGrin

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 22:31

Agree BTM . Too much creepy action going on. Just plain spooky I thought.
Can't say it was pleasurable to watch. That and the Stephen Poliakoff thing has put me off the telly. All too weird for me. I long for the return of Cranford. Lol
Dd has 3 uni open days / visits coming up so want something smart but comfortable to wear with a jacket.
That blue would be 'my colour' and it looks cool enough to deal with my hot flushes.BlushAngryBlushAngryBlush

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2013 22:59

I promise you, the menfolk in Dorking aren't quite as weird as Mayday would have you believe. A bit of an anticlimax, wasn't it? Although DH, DS and I all fell off the sofa laughing when Gail fed Malcolm's ashes to the dog.Grin

Interesting stuff about HRT (or HRH...). I am clearly perimenopausal, and I do not think this five-month hiatus is the end of things period-wise. I also need to have a little "chat" with my GP at some point.

In work news, there are a few gaps opening in our company due to people leaving/having babies, and they have asked if I want to increase my hours (currently I work 9-3, four days a week), possibly up to full-time. Eek. There is a lot of interesting stuff I can take on and, as the HR lady sagely said, if I decide not to increase my hours then they will recruit someone to take on the work, and the opportunity will be lost (even though it is probably about a year too early, what with DD2 still in Y5).

Soooo, lots of family chats about childminders, after school clubs and catching the bus home..... I think I will try to hang on to my single day off and just work four full days, and I have found a potential childminder for DD2 after school. I haven't worked a full day in 12 years, but I just need to bite the bullet (and I won't deny the money will be very handy).

Cremolafoam · 07/03/2013 23:33

Ooh CV that's an opportunity I think , if you can manage it. I'd go for it definitely. It's a good idea to keep your one day off if you can swing it.

bigTillyMint · 08/03/2013 07:54

Oh CV, that's really similar to what happened to me - felt like a year (or even 6months) too early at the time And I hadn't worked full-time in 11 years.

It has all worked out fine (though DS is older than your DD2 and not needing childcare) and the extra money is very handy, but it can be a bit of a struggle working full-time occasionally. Four days would be my ideal!

Blackduck · 08/03/2013 09:04

ahhh...long post and the system died...

Anyway - I'd kill for a four day week - most of my convos with dp consist of 'are you collecting or am I?' Luckily ds loves his childminder (and her brothers) so it's no great hardship for him.

I am hot flush free at the mo, and haven't had a period in 7 months - but don't think its over yet! I think, actually, I have got off fairly lightly - haven't had the red mist etc (in fact I'd say I have hit an equillibrium instead). But the word thing - god yes!

Cremo - where is dd looking? Is she the drama one?

motherinferior · 08/03/2013 09:33

I have convo about possible work next week. Part-time, I very much hope. HAving done five days a week for 18 months, plus freelance stuff, and nearly going totally bonkers.

MrsS you do NOT need a writing course, I've seen your stuff and you need to keep submitting it to agents till one of the buggers takes you on and negotiates a decent deal for you, dammit.

Crem, does that colour work on you? I would find it a bit washed-out...

beachyhead · 08/03/2013 10:32

I must admit that I love part time too. I'm on a 50% job, so two days one week and 3 days the next. You do suffer from forgetfulness about what you need to do, but a large list sorts that out.....

Am suffering Rubyesque, from a tooth infection, which means monty antibiotics. Unfortunately one of my closest friends is having a 50th birthday party tonight and tomorrow, so I will be the designated driver, a position I rarely find myself in...

Dh and I have been invited to a ball in June - I've realised that I haven't bought an evening dress for about 25 years, so I'm going to splash out. Unfortunately there are more areas that I would like to cover up now, than when I was 25, so more material, not less...

Cremolafoam · 08/03/2013 11:11

It does look a bit pale in that pic MI
But I like the shape and my eyes are that airforce blue/ grey. It is a colour I wear q a bit. Don't want anything too shouty.lol
Dd is now torn between politics and international relations and music and languages. She was at a uni fair yesterday and the overriding advice was do something u really love.
Trouble is she loves all her subjects.

I can recommend the 4 day week. I work an 80 hour month and the hours vary each week. Highly value my days off to do other things. Need the balance.

wilbur · 08/03/2013 12:51

Oooh, let's help Beachy find an evening dress, how exciting that someone is getting to REALLY dress up! Colour? Full length or not? Sparkly?

Crem - I like the dress, the print/colour is very pretty, although the empire line would not work on me - I like a waist at the waist, but then I have broad shoulders and no boobs so empire line makes me look like a little girl in a smock, or on a bad day, Grayson Perry.

Herbs - I also still have regular periods (I am slightly considerably younger than some of the old hags on here Grin) but everything is definitely changing and I use a progesterone cream to help with witch-like PMS that also occurs during ovulation or at least when there would be ovulation. I imagine my poor body cranking itself up to produce and egg, hormones going at full tilt, and then some poor wizened dot falling tiredly out of one ovary. Am also forgetful like my mad granny, but no hot flushes yet. I can't help thinking the 40s is like being back at school - the difference between 44 and 49 seems vast, in hormonal terms.

wilbur · 08/03/2013 13:18

AND most excitingly, we have booked a Festival for this summer, which looks awesome! The Wilderness Festival near Banbury in August - there's a trailer for it . We're not having a summer hol this year as we went skiing, so thought we would do a Festival and a couple of camping weekends too. Any Crepeys fancy coming along to Wilderness?
