Been struggling with shoe fit all my life. Even as a little girl I used to go fit

I'm a 7 and a half sometimes a 7 sometimes 8.

I'm jot ashamed at all if I had smaller feet id fall over, from. being a lanky cow.

the onky time I have had issue was in Malaysia when I was told sorry we dont stock sizes that large, I nearly cried :(

Tigerbomb · 29/01/2013 15:40

I like being an 8. I don't feel embarrassed at all

In fact it's usually size 8's that are available. When I was a size 7, there was always a limited choice because they would be the first to sell out

Size 8 is nothing! My grandma had size 10 feet, now imagine finding those when she was young in the 50s!!

WaynettaSlobsLover · 29/01/2013 15:46

I'm a 3 and it can be embarrassing sometimes shopping in the kids sections for shoes cos the shops don't always have my size. Feeling your pain op

PartTimeModel · 29/01/2013 15:46

I feel luck if I get into an 8 - often its a 9 (also pronounced 'none' in this country). (That's a 42 if I am lucky).

Plan a holiday to Germany - big shoe sizes are more normal there. I cannot shop for shoes in Spain or Italy - they don't seem to do 42's.

I don't feel embarrassed though - nothing wrong with big feet.
Are you tall too? I'm 5'9"

I think your lucky to be a size 8.Grin

When the sales are on there are so many size 8s left becoz they are such a rare size. I'm a size 6-7 n finding shoes in that size is a nightmare because its so common.

You should embrace your size 8 feet and think to yourself you have the pick of the bunch in the sales! XxxGrin

wewereherefirst · 29/01/2013 15:57

I'm a very wide size 8 and I used to hate having huge feet as a child. Now I'm an adult, I realise I would look silly being 5'11 with a size 5/6 shoe Grin

What gets me is that the soles of a lot of size 8 shoes are so flipping narrow that my feet hang over the soles.

Chopstheduck · 29/01/2013 16:06

Ha! I'm a 10, try getting shoes for a 10!

tbh I'm not sure it is true about 8s being easier to get hold of though, because I was told that when they get orders in, there are only a few 8s since there is less call for it.

I do find it a bit embarrassing, not so much in shops, but places like ice skating rinks, bowling alleys. I HATE having to ask for a 10.

Maraki · 29/01/2013 16:07

I'm 5'10 with really long legs and size 8 feet. All shoes (except baller flats) look fabulous on me. The weirdest sky high heels look great on my feet on me and I love shoes! They would weird if I had smaller feet. Never had a problem finding beautiful shoes.
(The reality is that I wear ballet flats or biker boots as I need to run after my kid all the time. Heels not good for a muddy playground).

Locketjuice · 29/01/2013 16:12

Try finding nice shoes left in the sale that are a size 4/5.... You don't! Confused

Be happy you have 'larger' feet Smile

ellangirl · 29/01/2013 16:13

Locket you get no sympathy for that!

WinkyWinkola · 29/01/2013 16:13

The staff in the shoe shops can make you feel like you have freak feet. I'm a size 9!

Amazon have a reasonable range of size 9s.

Who in the retail world decided women only go up to size 8? Some Chinese foot binding fetishist?! It's ridiculous.

rosiesmartypants · 29/01/2013 16:14

I love being a size 8 (US 10) so many bargains to be had at sale time!

I managed to get a pair of Kenneth Cole shoes yesterday for 9 dollars, and a couple of outstanding bargains in Nine West Grin

I rarely see size 8's in the sale. Always 3/4/5 as there's more of them produced.

ExitPursuedByABear · 29/01/2013 16:20

DD (13) is already a size 8 1/2. We really struggle with riding boots as they are all too long and too wide for her legs.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they have stopped growing, but reading that some of you are a size 10 I suppose they could just carry on.

DoItToJulia · 29/01/2013 16:22

Another size 9-10 here.

It's shit, but not embarrassing. And it's only shit because shoe shopping is a freakin nightmare. I wear men's walking shoes (merrel type).

Another one with no sympathy for locket!

DoItToJulia · 29/01/2013 16:23

I was that shoe size at you dds age exit. Hopefully shoe and boot people will start cottoning on by the time she is older, if she ends up a 10.

specialsubject · 29/01/2013 16:26

yes, I also wonder at the choice of 'embarrassed'. How odd.

I also wonder at those who say that there are always size 8s left in the sale; I've never seen anything except 4 or 5 so assumed that those are the sizes that nobody wears!

I've long since learned to buy shoes by asking for what is in my size (41/42) rather than looking at what is on display. That said, I can only really wear trainers or boots now so at least being this size means that I can also wear mens' shoes. Generally a better choice anyway - cheaper, made more sturdily and with no silly pink bits.

FadBook · 29/01/2013 16:30

I do understand how you feel. Another size 8 here too. It definitely has its benefits as you can get some right bargains.

I have been looking for brown boots for ages and finally got some Nine West ones in the sale from House of Fraser (£49 instead of £150!!) Still expensive but I know they will last me aggggggeeees (the last pair of Nine West shoes I had lasted me years, and I wore them to death), so it is a good purchase for me. They only had size 8 and 9's left.

I'm also tall (5'11) and would look very silly with size 5 feet and long skinny legs not to say I didn't dream of having size 5 feet in my early twenties or pretending to be a size 7 for many years squeezing my big feet in to the wrong size shoes Grin

LimeLeafLizard · 29/01/2013 16:31

I once asked for a size 40 (UK7) in a shop in Italy and still remember the horrified gasp from the two shop assistants - 'Quaranta???!' '40?' 'QUARANTA!!!!!!!!'

Did make me feel like a huge foreign oaf, so I understand how you feel.

I take a 41 now since having kids my feet have grown.

valiumredhead · 29/01/2013 16:31

How odd, it's not like size 8 isn't readily available.

enjoyingscience · 29/01/2013 16:32

Embarrased? Size 8 is a very standard shoe size! I'm an 8 and have never struggled. I do sometimes wish I was a bit daintier, but at 5ft 8, I don't feel dramatically out of proportion (and fall over quite easily enough as it is)

At uni I lived with 5 girls, 4 of which were a size 8, so maybe that's why I don't think it's unusual now.
