Crop haircut or no?

My hair is currently bra strap length with a blunt fringe. But having DS 5 months ago I am losing it in handfuls still (over 2 months now). I have had a short style before and considering it to save my dying hair!

Thinking to have it like Anne Hathaway www.recapo.com/the-talk/the-talk-gossip/the-talk-anne-hathaway-buzzed-hair-kesha-stopping-sexism-in-music/

Thoughts? Will it date? Will I regret it and get bored that I can't do anything with it?

I love cropped hair on the right person, and it can be dressed up with accessories etc if you do have a day when you feel like a change. If you leave a bit of a sweepy fringe, that also adds versatility so you can pin it over to the side/fifties style quiff/ smooth fringe/messy fringe.
Ask an honest friend if it will suit your face, and go for it Smile

RedRugRoffle · 27/01/2013 12:02

If you have the right face then yes. I'd love to have this hairstyle and envy girls who can pull it off.

GobblersKnob · 27/01/2013 12:02

I have gone from very long to very short many a time, but I have very, very fast growing hair.

Tbh it can be quite a shock and I would do it in increments, rather than lop it off and really regret it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2013 12:04

I did it years ago - went from bra strap length to a full-on pixie. The hairdresser kept asking if I was sure. I liked it a lot BUT it takes much, much more work to look okay; you need constant trips to the hairdresser. I'd like to do it again but think I'm too old now and my head would like like a pea on top of a Weeble, as I'm probably a stone and a half heavier than I was then.

MrsRogerSterling · 27/01/2013 12:06

It is a lovely haircut. If you have had short hair before then you should know if it suits you. It is the kind of hair I would love to have but could never pull off.

UsedToBeAPixie · 27/01/2013 12:08

I've had my hair pretty much like this for around 10 years now - wanted an interesting but 'easy to make professional looking' haircut after uni. Every so often I get a long hair twinge, but to be honest I love my short hair! My hairdresser cuts it slightly differently each time, slightly more off the sides/angle fringe/etc so I feel like it's always being updated (you need a hairdresser with vision for that though). I do dye it quite often as well to change it, as it will grow out soon anyway. Nothing crazy, just a few nice shades of red/auburn.

It's a big change though and will probably feel odd for a while!

NoelHeadbands · 27/01/2013 12:26

I had all my long hair cut off last year after losing weight. Love it.

Initially I went for an asymmetrical cut, with a sweepy fringe and a longer layer at one side. I've since had it evened out and it's pretty much similar to AH's. I can change it about quite a bit really, more than you'd think. I didn't really make the most of it when it was long.

I do have the right face for short hair though, small and high cheekboned

ceeveebee · 27/01/2013 12:46

I have a similar cut to Anne Hathaway, I have twins and needed a smart style before I returned to work - it literally needs no styling, just wash, comb and leave to dry while I get the DCs up and dressed. I much prefer it to my previous scruffy look as never had time to style hair at all.

joliejolie · 27/01/2013 13:05

Just did this the other day. My hair was long and falling out everywhere, so I had it all cut off. I took a pic of Michelle Williams and it looks really nice imo and everyone has complimented me. Not sure if I'm crazy about hearing the words "miles better" so many times, but I'll take it!

snowmummy · 27/01/2013 13:26

I love short hair. Go for it. Sounds like your hair needs it tbh. Mine is short, and like the poster above said, my hairdresser does something slightly differenct each time to keep it interesting.

OrchidFlakes · 27/01/2013 14:55

Thanks everyone. I'm going to dig out pics from when it was short before along with other 'celeb' pics (loving the Michelle Williams one!) and see how I feel in a few days [smike]

I love my short hair, it takes no time to style in the morning but does have to be cut every 6 weeks to keep it looking good. My fringe is a little longer than your pic which makes it quite versatile. Only downside is I find if I don't wear make up it can look awful. But that's probably just because there's no hair to hide behind!

OrchidFlakes · 27/01/2013 16:25

that's my fear shopafrolic... i look haggy enough some days!

OP posts:
joliejolie · 27/01/2013 16:56

I was also going to say that it definitely requires make-up everyday, especially mascara.

shopafrolic · 27/01/2013 17:37

It's actually a good incentive to stick on the slap!

NoelHeadbands · 27/01/2013 17:46

Yy if I don't wear make up I look like one of Fagins boys from Oliver! Hmm

Also check your ears Grin no word of a lie, a few days after getting my hair lopped off, I got an unsightly infection in the earring hole in my 'exposed' ear (the other one was concealed by my hair). So that was pleasant... Typical me

noddyholder · 27/01/2013 17:49

If you have slim shoulders and neck then yes I love short pixie hair but it only looks good on elfin faces otherwise is pat butcher-y

OrchidFlakes · 27/01/2013 19:00

Yowsers - I'll have to keep up the slap and stay in shape... Might be the kick up the butt I need!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2013 19:02

I still have an elfin face but am now a size 12 norky hourglass, rather than super-skinny 8 stoner. So do I need to steer clear?

noddyholder · 27/01/2013 19:03

Size 12 is slim you crazy woman! If you have the face it looks amazing I unfortunately don't or would love Envy

MrsDoomsPatterson · 27/01/2013 19:09

I had my blonde crop a la Annie Lennox for years, looks great if you have an oval face. pippa from QVC has similar hair. Really hankering for it to be short again....Love my make up too, it's a nice look! Go for it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2013 19:36

Thanks Noddy. I do have a ridiculously tiny head though.

shopafrolic · 27/01/2013 19:49

I'm a 12/14 with a starting to sag face. Perhaps it's worse than I thought.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/01/2013 20:17

MrsDooms I was going to suggest Pippa (Vanderberg?) from QVC- but have you seen her recently?
Her hair is longer, I really like her hair whatever outlandish colours she does and I really like the longer length.

Short hair is harder work WRT to hairdresser appointments and YY to the make-up.
I looked like a bloke on non make-up days and Sue from Mel and Sue (I was often told) if I was making a effort Grin
I could get away with no make-up in glasses but not with lenses.
