Balayage - anyone had it?

Read an article on balayage highlights and liked the look and sound of them. Mentioned to my hairdresser who had never heard of it! Anyone got any experience of balayage?

I did, couple of years ago now. Tbh, I don't really know anything much about highlights, but they were done without the foil? I was really pleased with them, but I have a truly fab hairdresser anyway Smile

Sorry, pressed post too soon. They were very natural looking and I grew them out without them looking awful, there wasn't much of a roots line, if that makes sense. I had blondey ones done, only a couple of shades lighter than my natural hair.

Thanks - sounds exactly like what I wanted! Wasn't sure if balayage is something specialist or fancy from the reaction I had from the hairdresser. The article I read said the technique has been around since the 70s.

Hi I have them done, I've never liked foils - especially around the temple when you get the regrowth "tiger" effect. They are very subtle and targeted around my grey streaks to tone them down during regrowth (I have a "nude" colour applied to the roots every 6 weeks)

I've also had highlights with a highlight comb which were ok, better than foils but not as natural as balayage.

But it really depends on the shading level you chose, I think. Too far away from your main colour and anything looks unnatural.

This sounds just what I need...anyone know of a colourist in Manchester that can do it?

Binfullofmaggotsonth45 · 26/01/2013 18:29

Can't help with Manchester, try googling for an Aveda salon?

Thanks Binfull, there's one in Knutsford which is not a million miles from me. How does it compare pricewise with highlights, is it horrendous?

I have done it to my self and like it

EduCated · 26/01/2013 18:40

When I had it done it cost the same as standard highlights. In fact, I'd gone for normal highlights but the hairdresser suggested doing it that way.

Oh my - feel quite fashion forward now!! Didn't realise balayage was anything special - I live in France and have always assumed it was just the same as having highlights in England. I do like the result though - it always seems very natural.
