Leather soles- advice

I just bought some lovely shoes in the sale that were quite expensive originally and because of this have lovely leather soles.

In the shoe box there is a guide saying that it's best to take the shoes to a cobbler to get a rubber insert on the leather sole. Does anyone know what this is and whether it is worth doing?

Is this the kind of thing that Timpson can do?

Timpson can do it, most dry cleaners will do it for you too.

I always do mine, it covers the whole sole but leather soles wear very quickly.

I pay £12ish.

Be wary of Timpson, they wrecked my Louboutins, though did cough up for a new pair. Best taking them to an experienced cobbler, not a chain.

Agree that you should avoid Timpson and stick with an experienced cobbler.

Timpson have ruined two pairs of my husband's shoes - they don't really seem to be particularly skilled.

Yy to using a proper cobbler.

Timpsons resoled leather knee high boots for £15 with very thin soles which soon came off, whereas local cobbler did it for £20 with proper thick, grippy soles that have stayed.

Should have added that boots were re-heeled too for that price.

There is an amazing great value cobblers near Baker Street tube if that is near you? Great value and very very good- plus their shop is like a shoe museum!
