Sorry, dullsville question: evening wedding reception

I have been invited to a colleague's evening wedding reception, along with a few others from work.

What to wear is the question. I don't have much suitable (it's early March). I do have a dress I bought for my sister's wedding last March, but I'm wondering if it will be too ott or daytime for the evening. It's a fitted, cream satin Coast dress with pink and purple wisteria, with a matching purple shrug. For my sister's wedding I had a matching fascinator hair adornment (horrors!). I obviously wouldn't wear that to the evening reception, but do you think I would look too much for an evening guest?

I suppose part of the problem is that at my sister's wedding I was an Important Guest, whereas at this one I'm not, so it feels a bit odd to be thinking about wearing the same thing. I really don't have anything else apart from black dresses which are worthy of the charity shop...

It sounds a bit much to me to be honest... Sorry!

Agree, too much.

So what's your size/budget/colouring?

JennyPiccolo · 14/01/2013 20:32

Could you just wear the dress with a cardigan?

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/01/2013 20:34

Yeap too much.

What other options do you have? Or do we need to go shopping?

polyhymnia · 14/01/2013 20:52

Agree with others - too much and wrong for occasion and season.

Fadingfast · 14/01/2013 20:57

Well, problem is I really don't have a budget for a new dress Sad. But I do agree it's a bit much to wear it.

Options are: black long sleeved knee length jersey dress, with dull coloured flowers all around the bottom. It is v old but looks better than it sounds (hopefully).

Or, I have just remembered I have a blue knee length fitted jersey dress, short sleeved (have worn it in the evening with black patent belt).

Not inspired by either option in truth, but I just can't stretch to anything new at the moment.

I am v tall, blond/fair colouring, size 14.

Could you borrow something from a friend?

notMarlene · 14/01/2013 22:32

LBD, 15 quid
purple, 20 quid
another 15% off both at check out. Well worth having a rummage in DP.

Fadingfast · 15/01/2013 19:47

oooh now I do like the purple one, thanks v much. Some good bargains on the DP site, once you get through all the blinkin peplum dresses, although lots are only left in size 6 or 8. Realise I should have addressed this much sooner now.
