Mumsy- help!

Having been on mumsnet a little while now, I'm concerned I've become the dreaded "mumsy"!!! It's my birthday soon and I thought I'd get some new clothes- what does anyone recommend as an essential?? I'm 38, slim(ish) 5'4" fair colouring if that helps?

Skinny Jeans?

I already have a pair, but am I too old?

38 is not too old for anything if you are comfy with it.
Start limiting yourself with that mindset and you will have a difficult time going forward - you are still allowed to have fun with fashion and look good, whether you are a mum, over 50 or whatever.

I only began wearing skinnies at 36 and they suit me far better than other cuts. You just have to find what's best for you. Don't write anything off your list of potentials, except maybe hotpants and Per Una.

How you style the items denotes who you are: a woman of 40 will wear her skinnies a tad differently to a girl of 16. Who cares?!

Check out Emmanuelle Alt and her posse at French Vogue for over 40 skinnies inspiration.

Last post I promise Grin

I am same height, colouring, build and age as you, and this is how I wear stuff:

Don't fall prey to the mutton mindset when you're barely out of lamb.

Thanks toasted Smile i esp. like the first picture in your first posting. And feelfree to post as much as you like!. I still feel like I did at 21 but obviously do not look it- not that I look old. I think I'm just sick of throwing on my clothes in the morning and tying my hair back. I want to look nice. And that means the stretched old tops, horrible pants and terrible shoes really need to go! I still have clothes I bought in my late 20's, they do not really look classic vintage though!. the kids always look better dressed than me.

Hi
Sorry for the very brief answer before did not have much time! I definitely do not think you are too old for skinnies. I think it more depends on your body shape.
I never wore them until I lost weight last year as I could not find any that were a good fit on both waist and hips. (I'm 43 by the way)

I find that M&S are fantastic value for money for skinny jeans, very comfortable and wash well. At the moment I like to wear them with a cami and a fitted cardigan such as this one which I just bought in the sale.

I also like to wear a shortish (ie above the knee but not too short) skirt with opaque tights and ankle boots.

I am just starting to feel a bit less mummy and am loving it!

And a nice but subtle belt.

Thanks! Very nice I quite like shorter skirts, I might look for one of them too- my legs are not long enough for below the knee; I bought some boots today which will go well with jeans or maybe a dress so I'm getting there slowly!
