Friend Loves Labels - any £40 ideas please?

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 16:13

Can anyone help? I'm looking for a gift for a friend. I can only afford around £40 at the moment. She has rather expensive, 'label' taste. I'm hoping to find something that meets her likes and my budget.

I saw this Lulu Guinness purse and this Vivienne Westwood bracelet. Are they a bit dull?

All ideas welcome. Only specifications: high-end 'label', around £40, and something that will last and not run out (e.g. cosmetics). I know it's a lot to ask so thank you!

John Galliano scarf?
Have a look at the TK Maxx site as there are lots of designer things on there.

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 16:19

Thanks Dexter, I completely forgot to try TKMaxx. I'll have a look now.

Unless you're very sure that she'll absolutely love something, I'd personally give her a £40 Space NK token so she can choose her own beauty or skincare product from their range of cult brands. That's what I'd choose for myself anyway!

Oh sorry see you ruled out cosmetics. But Space N K have some nice makeup bags anyway !
I wouldn't myself want something with a designers name written large on it like that Galliano but these things are very personal and you'll know her tastes.

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 16:31

I would quite like that myself too, polyhymnia! I want to give her something that will last longer and, also, I know that it's the labels themselves she loves so a small trinket of any kind from any of those high-end labels will please her. Thanks for the idea, Space NK is fab.

Anya Hindmarch coin purse.

sweetestB · 11/01/2013 16:37

I would a lovely well handmade something just to open up her mind a bit. Try Etsy website.

AlwaysOneMissing · 11/01/2013 16:38

I think the VW bracelet is lovely, it's subtle and I would love to receive this as a gift. I'm sure your friend would appreciate the thought that you had tried to get something she would like.
I'm not keen on the purse though, sorry.

imtheonlyone · 11/01/2013 16:39

Does she like bags? The Old Bag Company sell lovely handbags around that price range?

dexter73 · 11/01/2013 16:40

I was going to buy you that scarf for your birthday polyhymnia Sad

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 16:44

DonaAna, that sounds very 'her' but I can't find any cheap enough for this budget. I really love Anya Hindmarch's bags.

Sweetest, it's a good idea and I use Etsy for gifts often. I think this time though I want to stick to her specific 'taste' if I can afford it.

Always, don't apologise for not liking the purse. It was a case of dull-but-within-budget and that's a bad way to shop! Good to know the Westwood bracelet has potential!

Thanks everyone!

Clatty, thanks for that idea. I'm now seeing loads of Orla Kiely sale items for me. I knew this thread would quickly turn 'gift to self' Grin

imtheonlyone: yes, she does love bags and the website you recommended reminds me of Cath Kidston. My friend has lots of Cath Kidston household stuff, so I can look there too.

You're all helping so much.

I know you ruled out cosmetics and I know this is long shot but a pal got me a Tom forde limited edition lipstick - it s just gorgeous - love the packaging and case, and the pigment and colour is everlasting. I d really recomend it Smile

MarshaBrady · 11/01/2013 16:56

Alaia tights.

weekend by maxmara scarf.

leather gloves

scarf

wildfox cat tshirt

Depends on her taste too of course. But now is a good time to buy in sales. Go to My-W and NaP too and start at price lowest.

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 17:02

Those are all lovely Marsha, especially the gloves. Thanks for the My-W reminder too.

Turquoise, the Tom Ford lipstick in Crimson Noir is especially gorgeous, that certainly tempts me (she can keep the case!). Also a potential gift to self Wink

Nice iPhone cover? Marc by Marc Jacobs, Swash and Weston do nice ones on NaP c. £30.

Have you tried the Outnet? Often nice bits on there for the price.

polyhymnia · 11/01/2013 18:01

Aaw, dexxter re birthday gift - thanks - it's the thought that counts! Just that for me things with a huge designer name on are on a par with the bling Mulberry Daria bag mentioned on another thread, which has a massive great 'gold' Mulberry symbol on it!

dexter73 · 11/01/2013 18:07

It's not my cup of tea either. I don't like very obvious labels on clothes or bags.

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2013 18:35

The Marc by Marc Jacobs cases are really good value, Amber, but she doesn't have the phone or a tablet.

Polyhymnia and dexter, I'm with you on the overwhelmingly huge labels, I just find them a bit too loud.

GIFT PURCHASED! I went for subtle and timeless, for everyday wear or night, from LK Bennett. She buys shoes there and the branding is on the clasp so she'll like it. Plus it's reduced from £85 to £25 so I'm delighted. Thanks, my dears! Thanks

There used to be pens or key chains from Tiffany for this price. They make nice keepsakes too. Not sure if they are still within budget.
