How do you choose a new perfume?

I haven't worn perfume for a while. I used to wear Gio by Armani, then it was discontinued. I wore J'Adore for years until my husband confessed it made him feel a little queasy!

I tried a friend's Jimmy Choo recently and loved it, but have been banned from wearing it by my husband as it would remind him of that friend.

It's my birthday coming up and I'd like some new perfume. But where do you start? Surely you'd go into nasal overload just going into a department store and having a sniff at them all! Plus you can only spray one on yourself at once to really get a 'feel' for it!

Where on earth do I start?

Thanks!

From sending your DH to the shops to smell a lot and asking him to buy you the one he likes best.

You like a variety of things - he doesn't. His call.

The clueless male customer looking for a present is a typical client.
The SAs will sell him something that was recently launched - he will get a few alternatives and make the pick.

Go to the Worst Perfume Ever thread and see all the possibilities. And as Dona said -send him in and see what he likes best.

Given what you've said you like, what about Eau d'Issey, or Bright Crystal ( i think its versace)? Both quite light.

The Perfume Shop does a box of samples that includes a voucher for a full bottle. I can't remember what it's called, but maybe that would be a good start? I think it has 8 samples and a voucher.

Vivabox

However, I'm not sure what happens if you don't like any of them!

Alternatively, go over to the Worst perfume Ever thread and look at soem great ideas for smaple boxes in different groups i.e a set of Orientals, or a box of Ambers etc. there are some real experts on there. Dona Ana is one of them ^^

I'm sorry about the typos. I'm knackered.

Thanks all! Will do a bit more research ... getting a few samples sounds like a good plan!
