I died my hair last night with a home kit, am mousy blonde and picked two shades lighter, but after it is no bloody different!! I followed the instructions too. Am I missing something? Do I need to go massively lighter on the box to go a couple of shades lighter on my head? The colour was California Blonde - I wish!

Tips needed for a home hair dye virgin!

If it didn't have a lightener in it it won't lighten it. If you want to go a couple of shades lighter you'll have to use a seperate lightner or a dye with one in it.

Eh? Totally confused, I thought all hair dye had lightener in it by proxy eg: on the box it show the hair lighter after use? I am being thick - sorry.

Well I have dark brown hair but if I put a light brown in it doesn't look light brown IYSWIM. I'm not sure about the blonde dyes.
