Coconut oil - what am I doing wrong?

So I bought it - put it on my hair overnight - and the next day it's still as wild and difficult to tame as ever. What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried wrapping some cling film round your head and then putting a towel over that after you put the oil on? Its makes your head warm so the oil heats up but because of the cling film the oil cant escape onto the towel or your pillow. Sounds a bit mental but it has worked for me before.
