Has anyone had a bespoke eternity ring made?

DH has offered to buy me an eternity ring as it's 10 years this year since we met. It was that or a Mulberry handbag Grin but for that amount of money I'd prefer a piece of jewellery that I'd wear everyday to a handbag that I won't use as much.

Has anyone had one made? It would have to be platinum to match my wedding and engagement rings, and I'm toying with the idea of diamond and opal (my birthstone) or diamond and tanzanite. I'd love some ideas if anyone has an unusual eternity ring, or recommendations of places to get one made. We're in London but I wouldn't mind ordering online from somewhere reputable.

My ring is bespoke and made for me by our local jeweller.

It had to be bespoke as the rings I wanted to wear it with are old and shaped.

It took a lot of visits an design and looking at loose stones so I'm nt too sure if its something you really want to so remotely

We did visit hatton garden at one point to see if we could save some money and we found some excellent shops with very helpful staff

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/01/2013 16:12

Yes we had mine made, and I absolutely love it.

The jeweller we used isn't in London though. They do have a website - would you like me to PM you? I don't want to out myself by mentioning them on the thread, they are a good independent jeweller and well known locally - and people know we have used them for a few things!

Yes. DH took me to design mine for our 25th wedding anniversary.

He has given me a sapphire to have another ring made and I am going to ask Helen Burrell to design and make it. I have visited her workshop and looked at her designs. She specialises in memory and life story jewellery, and I have some diamonds and sapphires from my mother's jewellery that I will re-use.

I love my eternity ring because it is my own design and means something special to me.

Whereabouts in London are you? Can you get to St Albans? There is an amazing shop there called Christopher Wharton. They sell beautiful jewellery and also do bespoke. They can design something for you.

I had an eternity ring made there. I knew I wanted ruby and diamond and saw a style I liked with just diamonds. So they made me the same design with the stones I wanted. I wear it all the time on my right hand as I think it's a bit much 3 rings on one hand.

Be warned, they are not cheap! But really beautiful quality. I love tanzanite btw.

I had an eternity ring made by a jeweller in Hampshire. It is really beautiful -squared off platinum to match wedding ring and then 2 sapphires to one diamond. It is beautiful. Took a few visits and playing with stones though.

I haven't had one made, but I did have a chat with the people at Harriet Kelsall. They do some really beautiful work, and were really nice.

Davies and Vaugn They made my engagement ring from a sketch by DH

I have had 3 rings made for me by The Diamond Shop (Simon Lewis) in Hatton Garden. Very happy with all the rings, beautiful quality and real, old-fashioned craftsmanship. The guys there are also really happy to talk about what you want and they get so excited if you bring stones in for them to work with.
HTH and have fun!

EarnestDullard · 04/01/2013 17:57

Thanks, I'll check out all these suggestions. Dancer I'm N. London so St Albans is doable. Alibaba yes, could you PM me, thanks :)

I had my eternity ring made in Hatton Garden too.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/01/2013 18:08

You have mail :)

Shattereddreams · 04/01/2013 18:28

Nabootique
I have my eye in a design by Harriet Kelsall. More a complete falling in love with.

Did you gat as far as talking ££ if I may be so crude to ask?

WaxyBean · 04/01/2013 19:11

My engagement ring was from Harriet Kelsall, though was a one-off ready made design rather than a bespoke design. Highly recommended here.

Nabootique · 07/01/2013 10:14

shattereddreams They talked money with my then boyfriend, but I got the impression it was going to be somewhere around the £2k mark. That was in platinum though. I think would have gone white gold had we gone through with it, and that would have knocked a lot off of that.

MissBoPeep · 07/01/2013 11:42

Yes, sort of.

I had one made by Samara James, based in Teddington, or online. I chose from an off the peg with a slight change to it.

I did have 2 consultations with Harriet Kelshall but found them £££ and not really that bothered about having something made from absolute scratch.

They were at least £1K more than a similar design off the peg.

I was happy with Samara James but had a few niggles- they will send you a mock up of the ring, or the ring without stones, to try for size. They imply there is free postage but there isn't- for returns- and despite me telling them my size ,the ring had to be changed several times before it was right fit.

DH & I visited the Jewellery Quarter (Birmingham) and had a bespoke engagement ring designed and made. We were so impressed that we returned to have our wedding bands made from the same jeweller 2 years later. They also got our custom 3rd time round for an eternity ring and earrings. As you are in London, Hatton Garden must be a good bet. Ask around your friends & family for a recommendation. Otherwise, you are spoilt for choice - there are quite a few designers that I like the look of should I ever justify another piece of jewellery - it all depends what style of ring you like. For example,
I love this and this amongst others

Shattereddreams · 07/01/2013 17:18

Perfect nabootique
My rings are platinum so as a ball park figure, that was really helpful. Will get DH to start saving!

Chicinwellies · 07/01/2013 22:11

I work for a designer jeweller in Cornwall and regularly take commissions for bespoke rings, for those with stones ie diamonds, gems etc you are likely to get a far better grade than a mass made high street casting. Good luck

BadRoly · 07/01/2013 22:17

Dh chose an unusual engagement ring for me which meant that both my wedding ring and subsequent eternity rings were bespoke. We went back to the original jewellers both times, a small independent. It was lovely actually and I have 3 rings that I adore Grin

squiby2004 · 07/01/2013 22:59

My eternity ring is bespoke, Chanel setting of pink and white diamonds in platinum. It was done by a fantastic bespoke only jeweller on Bond Street. I love it!

Zipitydooda · 08/01/2013 00:28

Have you talked to any jewellers in Hatton Garden? You might find someone who will make you what you want. My DH had an eternity ring made for me by the jeweller who made our engagement/ wedding rings. The design is based on a photo of a ring I liked.
