Peplums - over?

Tried on a grey dress with a peplum in the sales today, 60% off.

It looked fabulous but I walked away because I wasn't sure if it would look completely outdated in a couple of months. Are they still "in"? It's still full price at lots of online places so it can't be that daft.

Tempted to go back...

I agree with Dexter! I think if it suits you (and there are so many different lengths etc of peplum) then it will be in fashion for a while. Also looking at net a porter/Matches etc. they still have full price peplums so I would think they're going to be around a little while longer. I fancy a peplum jacket.

Bugger. Can't get back until Wednesday now so fingers crossed it doesn't go.

It was the best peplum I've seen - some were awful and made me look pregnant or like a Star Trek extra a bit too fashion forward.

Nah, SS13 collections had lots of them.
I love them. I went to a Vermeer exhibition and they were very on trend in 1660 too.

I think they are totally dull, but I didn't like them in the first place.

If you get the right length they make your bottom look magnificent (to quote DH). I wasn't keen on them till I tried them on and realised I had a waist for the first time.

D'you know, I was on the brink of posting this Q when I was in the changing room but talked myself out of it.

What really put me off was having visited Russell and Bromley beforehand where bad peplums in nasty black fabric have been incorporated into the staff uniform. Not a good look.

Fingerscrossed you can get it. Is there anyway you could call up the store, buy it over the phone and have them save it for you? I know most stores don't put sale stuff to one side, but if you actually buy it they might?

I think I will give that a go - it's a big department store and was carnage today so I'd be amazed TBH.

No to peplums. Ok if cheap on 16 year olds, but a bad idea otherwise.

Personally, I think it's not about following fashion, it's about finding a style that suits you, and once you have, stick to it.
I love peplums, I've been wearing them on and off for about 4 years now and think they're incredibly elegant and will continue to wear them.

as a tall person I've never got on with the peplum coz it just looks like a shelf somewhere aroudn my ribs/under boobs.

Hmm, it does look good quality. But I still think that peplums are a bit of a no-no. They will date- I doubt they'll be current for much longer. And unless you are very skinny of hip, they do nothing for most figures.

Buy it if it suits you and you love it. Peplums have a habit of coming back into fashion every 2-3 years so it will never truly fade. I'm not a huge fan myself being already big around the middle but I'd love to wear them if I had the figure.

I didn't even know what a peplum was. I've learnt something. Not very keen on them myself.

I agree that it depends on your hips. Mine are narrow, though I have a thick waste and saddlebag thighs, so the fact that peplums sit just on the top of my hips is a good thing and they give me a waist. I am about the same height as you OP and I can imagine that taller people would have a problem with them hitting above where they should!

I wasn't sure about them but bought this New Look top in claret and it does wonders - gives me curves where I have none plan to wear it with skinnies and my £10 claret patent heels from Next. I love sale time.

Can't see your link OP, on mobile and Saks has entered my shitlist of websites that don't redirect properly from a mobile. But that DVF one is beyond horrible.

They arent going anywhere because they are flattering to a range of shapes. Buy it!
