Please help me find jeans for my lovely 9yr old DD

That aren't skinny/super skinny but build for KIDS to wear She is tall, she isn't skinny and she shouldn't have to end up harrassed and upset trying on aged 14yr old jeans which barely go on and are 8inches too long at the bottom

I eventually got her woman's size 10 out of Debenhams.

She had the most beautiful pair of wide legged dark denim ones from ASDA which she has grown out of. Why doesn't anywhere do something like that anymore - the skinny/super skinny/skinnier than thou look just doesn't suit everyone, bless her.

The reason she can get in an adult size 10, is that the animal type jeans are hipsters and they are made to fit across her hips rather than waist. They fit because she has no waist and her hips are relatively small in proportion.
Leggings are far comfier than jeans and fashionable at the moment, cant she wear those.

The mantaray ones are also a size 10 bruffin and yes I'll have a look for some leggings too thank you.

Dizzy Is she quite girly or more tomboyish?
Just thinking that skirts and tights/leggings might be another option?
this is lovely and could easily be paired (by DH!) with some simple tights. Has got a stretchy bit at the back, so would be great!
I know you said that she wanted to be comfy - this skirt looks like it would be super comfy!

To address the issue in your OP, I do not think it is an issue with the comfort of skinny jeans per se. DD1 is 9 and loves skinny jeans and finds them very comfy. I do agree that the label skinny is unhelpful though. Her best friend is the skinniest child I know and finds all trousers with a waistband uncomfortable and lives in leggings. Horses for courses really.

Ooh, haven't read the whole thread so some one else may have suggested this but you can get some really nice iron on patches/transfer type things, very girls! Maybe get some jeans that she is comfy in and then pick some of the path things to make them girls.

She's not overly girls if I'm honest but every now and hen a lady likes a sparkle!

I've popped up some photos of her - something I NEVER do. I just want you to see that I'm not blind to her size but I do NOT think that there are health issues here.

The last one is of her with her classmates (both MONTHS and the one on the left wearing high heels) last week getting ready for their school disco a few weeks ago. DD (in the middle) is wearing a BHS aged 12-13yrs dress and size 4 sparkly trainers from primark.

I am biased but I think she's perfect. End of.

Middle kid will only wear boys clothing so getting jeans/trousers for her isn't an issue. Youngest DD is smaller in build AND insists on wearing only dresses. No wonder DH has issues getting them all dressed

Am i right in thinking she is about 5 ft. Did you have a look at the petite adult range, which should be about the right length.

Oh Dizzy please don't feel like you need to justify yourself. FWIW, I had a sneaky look at the pictures and she is beautiful! From the pictures she clearly has nothing wrong wither her!
Also, I think she would look lovely in a pair of jeggings - stretchy skinny jeans with an elasticated type waist (I know that doesn't sound very appealing!) and they are unbelievably comfy! I've got 5 girls under 6 and they all wear jeggings - I find normal jeans to uncomfy for them.
I could also imagine your DD in skinnies with some converse?

She has leggings, converse, high tops etc and suits them all KateShmate thank you. She wanted to spend some Christmas money on some jeans hence nipping into Debenhams. We got a couple of pairs to try on at home from the ladies section but I just despair at the shops and wondered if it was just me?

Thank you for your kind words, I think she's beautiful but she's my oldest, my first shot at this and worry that I'm blind to any imperfections regards size.

Bruffin - I believe she is 152cm which is a whisper shy of 5ft exactly.

TheSecondComing - you didn't upset me honestly. I just wanted advice regards shops that may still sell items of clothing without the titles 'skinny' and 'super skinny'

I don't come on MN as much as I used to for certain reasons but finding clothes to fit your children is sometimes hard and I sought out help and got sucked in again - shop suggestions should have been enough in this case, she shouldn't have to experience the pain of not fitting to the shops sizes just yet ESP when the clothes aimed at her age group have massive signs marking them 'SKINNY' and 'SUPER SKINNY'

Oh and that's not me that with her in the photo - that was one of the 'flash' dance crew on the South Bank that she joined in with when we were in London in the summer

I think my 9 nearly 10 yo is about the same height as your dd but we have the opposite problem she is like a rake, I cant get leggings/jeans/school trousers to fit her, to fit her in the leg they are way too wide in the waist and many shops stop the adjustable waist after age 10 and she needs an age 12, leggings are always too baggy, she doesnt mind wearing tights and shorts or skirt tho, I shop in the usual next, debs and m&s for her.

You dd is gorgeous and looks happy and healthy :)

I could tell from the pics that she was a fellow Converse lover!
So is she still looking for some non-skinnies then?
These H&M ones are pretty cool.
I know she's looking for jeans, but as an alternative, what about some shorts with thick tights underneath and converse? these or these are nice!

Oh no ClaimedbyMe, DH and I were talking about that earlier too, it's so hard isn't it? If it helps I know that Gap do superskinny jeans that my friend's daughter wears and they still hang off her as she's extremely slim too.

DD was at a swim party a few weeks ago and one of her wee best friends looks like she's snap if a breeze went over her - standing next to DD she looked smaller than her wee sister It's such a shame isn't it - youthful clothes shopping should be easier than this. Good luck with your search too!

She's got some shorts Kate and I've just managed to get her some new tights as she got too tall for the Next ones she had - she kept trying to tell me they were ok but the crotch was half way up her thighs!!! She has also had a growth spurt shoe size wise so we're off into town AGAIN to get new boots/shoes - I think she's aiming for patterned/coloured DMs and some new high tops - it's too cold for converse up here just now but if there are some in the sale I never say never to shoes

Primark do great skinny jeans & jeggings in , I think sizes 6 - 20, they also come in 3 lengths.

The short length fits me ok, & I'm under 5ft. I got 4 pairs in there earlier in the week for £7 each

I used to have a similar problem with DD and I used to buy her cropped jeans or 3/4 length jeans in a size 2 up from her age.

Now she has changed shape a bit. Aged 8, fits 9-10 jeans with the hems taken up an inch. She is a healthy weight but some of the clothes seem to be for a very slim build.

I have the opposite problem with DS2 and DS3, I have to buy slim fit jeans and even then I have to adjust the waist to make it smaller. The clothing industry seem to think that all boys are of a sturdier build than all girls.

H&M do jeans with a larger fit on their website in the 8-14 range. You have measured her wrong I think. My ds1 is 10, 152 cm, size 5 feet and quite chubby looking at the moment-he's in the age 12 slim jeans from H&M so I'd be surprised if the generous fit ones aren't ok for her.

I hope you find her some jeans that fit her. I agree with you FWIW about what you said about the clothes in New Look for example. I don't understand about the problems you are having buying jeans etc, because I have boys, but I certainly can not see why your DD should be forced into buying jeans in a ladies department. I can not for one minute imagine she is the only one, she obviously doesn't have a weight problem and to me making clothes so hard to get for normal healthy kids is a sure fire way if giving them hang ups about their bodies and weight!

dizzy she looks exactly the same shape and size as my dd. We have exactly the same problem. I was a similar shape as a girl - I was probably a year behind her so aged about 10. Part of the problem IMO is that they have no waist and once you get to age 11 and beyond, the clothes have been designed for girls who have hit puberty and therefore have a waist so hence nothing fits!
