Please help me find jeans for my lovely 9yr old DD

That aren't skinny/super skinny but build for KIDS to wear She is tall, she isn't skinny and she shouldn't have to end up harrassed and upset trying on aged 14yr old jeans which barely go on and are 8inches too long at the bottom

I eventually got her woman's size 10 out of Debenhams.

She had the most beautiful pair of wide legged dark denim ones from ASDA which she has grown out of. Why doesn't anywhere do something like that anymore - the skinny/super skinny/skinnier than thou look just doesn't suit everyone, bless her.

I really really don't mean to be rude but are you sure you measured right? That waist is 31" so about an adult size 14.

I know the Next sizes were smaller, but the 3rd pair across on the top row (from link) had lovely stretchy waistband which would be good, and nice and comfy too! I know that their 'baggy' jeans are very very baggy!

TheSecondComing - as I mentioned earlier she started off at 10lb 4oz. She has never been small. She is an active, healthy, fit 9yr old who is head and shoulders above her peers. She is not skinny by any means but she is not fat. I'd say she carries puppyfat like I did and when I was 12 it all just fell off. We watch what they eat as we're prone to weight gain. They don't get fizzy drinks, an abundance of sweets etc etc She is, however, larger than the average 9yr old. I just don't believe she should be out of kids clothing altogether at the ripe old age of 9

Oddboots - probably not as DH measured her 'waist' so feck knows. The size 10 woman's jeans fit her but need a belt so no, I cannot imagine she is anywhere near to a 14. I'll check again when DD3 has stopped measuring EVERYTHING now the tape measure is out - including the dog

MsElleTow - she is a straight up and down 9yr old with no defined 'waist' as such

I'll measure her again when I can but at the moment I don't want to upset her further after our unsuccessful shopping trip

Maybe when you get the chance quietly measure some clothing that fits her instead of measuring her to avoid risking more upset.

Checked out for what exactly? What age is your DD1 if you don't mind me asking?

She has size 4 feet now. Has the majority of her adult teeth and like me I don't think she'll be far off getting her periods (I started mine at 10) Her Dad is 6ft although I'm only 5ft6

She walks with the dog, goes out on her bike all the time, swims, has diving lessons. Drinks only milk, water and a fruit juice for breakfast. I make her packed lunch so know what she's eating during the day.

If you think she's big wait till you hear about DD2 she was 11lb 1oz and started off at 59cm long

Dizzy, DS2 started off 3 weeks early at 8lbs and 60cms long. He is now 16 and has size 13feet, his waist is 32 inches with a 35inch inside leg. Going on your measurements his waist is only an inch bigger than your 9yo's!

She has a 28inch waist. That is not normal size waist for a 9 year old, even if she is tall. That is just 2 inches less than my 6ft ds, and 3 inches more than my 5.6 dd 15.

At my very slimmest I was a size 12-14 waist and size 16 chest. That was when I was 20yrs old, extremely fit and too skinny for my frame/chest. I don't expect my girls will fall into the 'skinny' category ever. We watch what they eat and how active they are, all 3 of them.

She's not a size 14. The size 10 jeans are slightly too big for her and she'll need to wear a belt.

I'll no longer recount irrelevant birthweights/lengths etc

I'll no longer discuss her on a thread at all - it's now all getting a tad uncomfortable.

She's straight as a dye tbh, she won't even take a drink of water without asking for it first. She doesn't have money/access to treats or anything at school so I know it's not there. In fact she'll quite often come home with her snack still in her bag as she hasn't felt the need to eat it at school.

Due to the nature of my work they're so sick of the sight of sweet treats it doesn't occur to want them anymore. Her favourite snack is fresh strawberries mixed with grapes and she eats Special K for breakfast (by choice) Now, I'm not saying they don't enjoy sweets/crisps etc but it's not a constant option.

We're less active in the winter as so much of what we do is outdoors and the climate isn't the kindest here (NE Scotland) but she still has all her indoor lessons and out with the dog or the bikes at least once a day. Her jacket is a size 6 woman's North Face one (still too big) so I'm not overly concerned.

I just feel I shouldn't have been posting such personal details about her on a public forum - totally unlike me.

I guess I was just trying to gauge if the frustration I feel towards the shops trying to stuff wee girls into super 'skinny' clothing is just down to me or if it's a general theme. I object to the word 'skinny' as something to aspire to anyway - we're trying to teach them all to be healthy and happy, not 'skinny'

I want ALL three of them to be healthy, happy and dressed in a way that's comfortable - not one that conforms to the latest fashions/trends. She's 9yrs old ffs. She shouldn't have to be looking in the 'divided' section of H&M which frankly only has clothes suitable for girls a LOT older.

She doesn't have a waist. She doesn't have a bust although has begun to develop. She should be lolling about in comfy soft jeans, trainers and hoodies

I might go for boy's ones though, if I were you.

My dd causes clothing problems as even skinnies are too big on her but my ds was rather thicker of build and I totally agree that clothing for kids should be comfy and soft. Hopefully this fashion will soon change.

Thanks hugoagogo - will have a peek. The need for jeans is mainly so that her Dad has something to chuck on her when I'm not here - his ability to dress 3 DDs in a hurry leaves somewhat questionable results

I just hink it's not good when shops like New Look have a dress in both the kids section and the adults section and the woman's size 8 dress is smaller than the aged 14yrs in the kids section. That's not really the kind of message/ideals I want my girls to have.
