I bought Benefit "They're Real"

I have really cack eyelashes.
I need to use eyelash curlers (I don't wear make-up often, maybe 2-3 times a week, and not to work)

I asked the Sales Rep "Is it as good as everyone says"?
and she says "Yes, it's brilliant"

I use Mally mascara which is thickening and really good, but I thought I'd try Benefit.

Is there a technique I need to know? I've read the brush is good to catch all the small lashes.
But it doesn't thicken. Doesn't lengthen.
Just black.
Very Sad and Hmm TBH.

You need to wiggle the brush from side to side as you apply and put loads of coats on. Don't think I'd buy it again though. It's too much like hard work!

ViperInTheManger · 26/12/2012 01:29

No. I thought it was rubbish

FrameyMcFrame · 26/12/2012 01:31

Tjhe brush is great but the actual mascara isn't. i use othee mascara but brush it through with the benefit brush iyswim

FreeButtonChristmasTree · 26/12/2012 08:29

I really like but I have v long eyelashes. I do the wiggle and it really thickens them up. Bitch to remove - except with Vichy eye makeup remover.

vjg13 · 26/12/2012 09:37

Bit underwhelming and awful to remove.

Phwooooar · 26/12/2012 09:41

I bought it too - rubbish stuff and removing is a nightmare. Clinique High Impact is much, much better

swooosh · 26/12/2012 09:42

I got it for Christmas, haven't tried it yet but until now had only heard good about it.

QuinnFabray · 26/12/2012 10:15

I really like it, and don't have any problem removing it with a cream cleanser. Only problem is, 9 times out of 10 I poke myself in the eye with the huge plastic wand. It dries out pretty quickly too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/12/2012 10:27

Have you tried rapid lash? Mine was only £20 on amazon, £45 on boots!

ZenNudist · 26/12/2012 10:31

Ime benefit mascara is rubbish. Bad gal is ok but I'd say no better than high street ones. A lot of their stuff is more about packaging and gimmicks than anything else. That said I fell for it ages ago and quite a lot of my stuff is benefit. It's just not very good...

FreeButtonChristmasTree · 26/12/2012 10:56

phwooooar the Vichy eye makeup remover is great at getting it off. It,s one of those two part removers which you shake up before using. It is really really great for getting that stuff off.

Also I only learnt how to take off mascara properly this year and am amazed at how much cleaner and effective it is. Soak the pad in remover, fold in half and squeeze your eyelashes in between the two halves of the cotton wool pad. Squeeze gently along the length of your lashes for about 20-30 secs. Voila! All gone. It has revolutionised my mascara life

SorrelForbes · 26/12/2012 11:06

It's not very good at all. I threw mine away after about three weeks as it was going clumpy. I bought the new Lancôme one using my Debenhams beauty club points. When that runs out I'm going back to the Givency Phenomen'Eye one.

tearsofrobertsmith · 26/12/2012 11:22

Haven't tried "they're real" and not likely to after being convinced by the benefit sales assistant in local debs to buy "bad gal" from the range. Never again - mascara is my must have product and I've had all sorts from collection 2000 to mac, Dior and lancome. That bad gal was dry and the brush too soft so it didn't go through eyelashes well. I like currently , maybelline collosal volume (yellow tube) and Avon super shock. Other benefit stuff lovely but mascara for me is total pants .

SantasENormaSnob · 26/12/2012 13:32

Benefit mascaras are utter shite imo.

I like loreal telescopic lengths but my lashes are long anyway tbh.

steben · 26/12/2012 15:57

I liked it at first then it irritated me by the fact you need terps to remove it. I bought one the other day which came highly recommended - the boots soap and glory HD one - pretty good so far!

StinkyWicket · 26/12/2012 17:59

You need to curl those lashes really well before you use it, and yes, you need a lot of coats.

I find the best way to curl them is to squeeze the lash curler, then gently tilt upwards till it's at a right angle to your face. Repeat, and you have really up-tilted lashes. Even a cheap, shitty mascara can look fab if your lashes are nicely curled!

Snog · 27/12/2012 04:26

I think this mascara is fab, looks like false lashes on me!

HazleNutt · 27/12/2012 07:11

I've tried it, lashes indeed looked real. Real awful.

Somebodysomewhere · 27/12/2012 12:47

God its shit. Clumpy and pointy painful looking lashes. Total waste of money.

Emo76 · 27/12/2012 13:46

all benefit mascaras have smudged on me

My current favourite is the l'oreal telescopic - does not smudge on me.

benefit is overrated marketing

Sickandsad · 27/12/2012 13:51

I hated it and found the brush too big and fat. I ended up with black sludgy lumps on the lashes and smears on my face. Have binned it and gone back to the Estée double wear mascara that I love.

FreePeaceSweet · 27/12/2012 14:01

I have it and hate it. I shove it down my bra to warm up while doing the rest of my make up or it doesn't go on properly. The best one is Boots No7 360 one.

fourfingerkitkat · 27/12/2012 22:57

I'd say a good 90% of the benefit products are utter shite. Hoola bronzer, high brow and mr bright are great but apart from those you're paying for pretty names and kitschy packaging....I also find the assistants extremely pushy and so f*ing annoying - but that may just be the ones that work in my store. I hate being called "babe" or "doll" by a girl who is at least 15 yrs younger than me....
