Resolutions for next year, wardrobe wise?

Mrsrudolphduvall · 21/12/2012 15:32

I am not keeping things "for best" and will rid my wardrobe of Next jeans which stretch beyond recognition by mid morning.

I will buy less, but buy things which go with current items, as opposed to random purchases which never get worn.

There will be nothing in my wardrobe which does not make me look and feel good. Begone, shapeless cardis and arse enlarging tops.

Less is more and try to just buy quality, limited to a few quality items each year.
All after DC#2 arrives and will book in for a personal shopper at John Lewis for advise. Am saving already....

BunFagFreddie · 21/12/2012 16:20

Xmas Grin about Next jeans Mrsrudolphduvall. I put some on this morning for doing cleaning and a bit of work in the garden. They were all baggy by 10:30 and I almost flashed an old man.

I'm going to try not to save things for best either. Buy better quality, more classic pieces that will go with what I already have. Mind you, I did a massive wardrobe purge in the Autumn and have bugger all now. I don't even really know what clothes I like at the moment.

FunnyLittleFrog · 21/12/2012 16:28

I kept last year's resolution to stop shopping at Next (for me, got a nice light shade last week however!).

This time my resolution is to not be tempted by online seasonal sales by brands that don't do anything for me

Hopefully · 21/12/2012 16:29

I will own decent knitwear.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 21/12/2012 16:32

I will go to Rigby and Peller as soon as possible in the New Year and get myself a couple of decent bras.

I will buy less things and really love them.

Ihatemytoes · 21/12/2012 16:35

I will wear dresses more often. Have recently started doing this, and have had so many compliments. trouble is finding dresses long enough as I'm 5' 9".

twentythirteen · 21/12/2012 16:40

Ah, good thread OP. We've got new wardrobes coming tomorrow and I've been steadily going through my stuff with a stern hand, which has also prompted me to buy a few items. I hope to end up with about 6 or 7 dresses I can wear to work or socially, one pair of jeans, one pair of shorts, etc. Sadly I do not own any casual tops now as they were all ready for the bin. But you get my drift. A basic wardrobe where everything is wearable!

Ephiny · 21/12/2012 16:41

I am never going to buy another item of clothing from M&S (except maybe knickers and socks). So much frumpy, unflattering, aging stuff I've bought from there just because it's the easy default option. No more.

I might even start wearing skirts/dresses, haven't decided about that one yes though

Meggles76 · 21/12/2012 17:18

To get some decent new underwear. Measured in John Lewis today as a 30C. Am currently wearing 34C :-(

Aquelven · 21/12/2012 17:46

I am going to wear the nice things I own instead of slopping around in jeans & jumpers all the time just because I spend all my days with the animals.
Come next Christmas I will nothopefully have anything left hanging in my wardrobe with the labels still on. Blush

Whoknowswhocares · 21/12/2012 18:14

Find a pair of jeans that actually fit!
Clear out the wardrobe of baggy, shapeless crap
Buy a small number of really lovely things a-la-capsule.....I've always wanted to have a properly organised wardrobe where things get used and go together and never yet achieved it, so this is the year!
Wear everything at least once twice at least five times or out it goes

Mrsrudolphduvall · 21/12/2012 18:18

Maybe we should have a day in early Jan to clear wardrobes together!!

I have a couple of pairs of expensive jeans which have been worth every penny..must buy another pair. I have long legs so I tend to buy Next tall simply because they're long enough..however the quality is appalling.
Glad it's not just me who has that issue with them.

Yes I have the same problem with Next jeans, I don't buy them any more.

to buy myself some clothes that fit properly. Most of y current wardrobe has been brought as stand bys until reach target weight so cheap and cheerful from primark, h&m and supermarkets, but whilst these things look nice the first time you wear them they dont withstand washing and wearing a lot. Also not always the best fit. so determined to shop around on my child free days, to not buy anything without trying it on and checking out all angles in the mirror.

Paintyourbox · 21/12/2012 22:07

I had a massive wardrobe purge a few weeks ago, eBayed, charity shopped and recycled 6 black bags worth! Then put together outfits of top/trousers/knitwear together on one hanger to save time in the morning.

It's very anal but I went to TK Maxx and bought matching velvet hangers for everything, it has freed up loads if space as they are slim but sturdy and everything looks a lot tidier at the same height.

My resolution is to find well fitting jeans that don't go baggy or fade quickly. Rudolph do you mind if I ask which brand you buy?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/12/2012 22:10

I've bought very little overall this year and intend to continue buying fewer things but spending more on stuff that I really love. And I want to ensure that I've got enough really good basics - long sleeved layering tops, a couple of good jumpers, skinny jeans which are not too big on the waist, great boots.

I hope to get some boots and a new coat in the sales and to choose wisely enough that they will each last a couple of years. I fancy a slightly smarter version of a parka - has anybody seen any?

SantasNaughtySack · 21/12/2012 22:14

I will buy a cashmere cardigan.
I will stop buying things I have no shoes to go with.
I will stop wearing white tips with recently dyed hair Grin

Paintyourbox · 21/12/2012 22:14

Remus I saw a smart wool duffle/parka style coat on the Uniqlo website a few weeks ago. Was cursing my winter coat as it still looks really nice so couldn't justify buying one!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/12/2012 22:18

Thank you. We haven't got Uniqlo here though and I just can't be faffed with ordering clothes online, unless I've already had chance to try them on. Also Uniqlo stuff always seems to be a very strange fit on me.

awaywego1 · 21/12/2012 22:24

I've become quite compulsive about buying clothes from charity shops, which means I have loads of one wear ill fitting poor quality things. I will have a huge clear out in January, and try to only buy things that fit and are good quality and I need.

amirah85 · 21/12/2012 22:34

What's the best pace to buy good basics?eg layering tops etc?I want to have a capsule wardrobe since ages but keep getting confused and giving up...

libertychick · 21/12/2012 22:45

Another vote here for wearing the nice stuff I have even if it's just in the house at the weekend instead of slobbing in bootcut jeans and old cardis. And going to dress younger especially for work - am freelance now so can be less corporate. Really keen to do HoC and a John Lewis personal shopper day.

MamaGeekChic · 21/12/2012 22:47

not to buy things on a whim, or anything that requires the loss of a couple of pounds to look great.

scripsi · 21/12/2012 23:01

I am going to stop buying viscose things which look amazing for the first two wears and then bobble like crazy (bought a ridiculously expensive sweater dress from house of fraser - as an investment - which has done this before I'd even washed it for the first time, and now it's only good for wearing at home).

I really must stop saving things for best as I am at the stage now that there are unworn things which are very out of date.
