Resolutions for next year, wardrobe wise?

I am not keeping things "for best" and will rid my wardrobe of Next jeans which stretch beyond recognition by mid morning.

I will buy less, but buy things which go with current items, as opposed to random purchases which never get worn.

There will be nothing in my wardrobe which does not make me look and feel good. Begone, shapeless cardis and arse enlarging tops.

Good thread...

I am going to get measured for a bra: after 2 dcs and losing a stone, I think I need some new ones! desperately

I am going to see an image consultant to get my colours done. I have bought lots of neutral (good quality/sales bargain) basics e.g. jeans, jumpers, long-sleeved tops but would like something more adventurous/interesting now.

I will organise my wardrobe, shoes etc. with new hangers and boxes. Have purged a lot of stuff but I think there is a long way to go. Years of not properly replacing clothes, or buying cheap stuff and being a bigger size mean there's a lot that does nothing for me.

Here's to a more stylish New Year.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 21/12/2012 23:12

I'm going to get out of my work style rut of black trousers and a top. Going to try on more dresses and skirts and not shy away from things without trying them on first. I might be surprised what suits my size 16 body if it fits well.

teta · 21/12/2012 23:22

To wear all my cashmere jumpers.I have loads from when i lived in China.I then went up 2 sizes and am now going down again[very slowly with loads of exercise].Now i want to be slim enough to fit into them and look right.Secondly i want to stop living in my gym kit all the time[but one might cancel out the other].

Mrsrudolphduvall · 22/12/2012 09:17

paintyourbox I have Citizens for Humanity, J Brand and a fab pair from Goldsign. They are like a stretchy skinny trouser, fit like a glove and are very long.
But very £££££ Sad
but worth it.

I get basic tops from Esprit..they do 2 for £25 and they are long line and long in the sleeve.

I might look at dresses for 2013...again problem is fit as I am 6 feet tall.

And daft as it sounds, matching hangers and hanging clothes according to type, does help.

I'm going to stop shopping on EBay. I have loads of stuff that doesn't fit properly because I rarely go to the shops, either buy online or on eBay. I need to have a big sort out and then plan to go into town once a month to buy something that actually fits me - especially because I've lost about a stone so my jumpers are hanging off me. I need some flattering tops.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 22/12/2012 10:55

And I'm going to stop the "it'll do" buying mentality. If it doesn't fit well and look great then no, it won't do.

SaraBellumHertz · 22/12/2012 15:30

I will step away from the pretty lacy brightly coloured lingerie find decent underwear that is comfortable and is invisible under clothes.

motherinferior · 22/12/2012 15:31

I will continue to frequent the charity shops of South East London.

Djembe · 22/12/2012 15:38

I will stop buying things just because I'm in a shopping mood, and buy stuff from my Pinterest wish list board instead of random impulse buys.

Specialbrew · 22/12/2012 18:48

As a 5 3" hourglass, i will give up trying the 'layered' look. It's taken me years to figure out that it is never going to suit me. And I have way too many clothes, so am only going to buy what I need. This means no sales shopping in January, probably for the first time in 15 years.

ChristmasIsForPlutocrats · 22/12/2012 19:36

We're due to finally buy a house, so count me in gor purging, organising and filling in the "gaps", in our new cupboards and with a tallboy to myself again (currently sharing with DH).

Also, must mend and de-bobble (I have a comb-like defuzzer which revived a whole lot of DS's vlorhes and tights for DD).

ChristmasIsForPlutocrats · 22/12/2012 19:36

"vlorhes" = "clothes"!!!

minimumthebare · 22/12/2012 20:23

Get rid of my drapey jersey maternity wear that I've been wearing for the last six months since DS was born Blush and wear proper, fitted clothes that suit me. This will be easier once I've shifted the last stone and a half, so I should start shopping again in April!

I'll also polish my shoes more often, and get things mended quickly when hems drop/buttons fall off, so start taking proper care of clothes and shoes.

QueenCadbury · 22/12/2012 20:46

Same as the rest of really
-stop saving things for best
-continue to use Pinterest to think about what I really need and fill in the gaps in my wardrobe
-try and find some day dresses that fit. I'm 5'4size 8/10 but long waisted and so dresses never seem to sit properly

GeorginaWorsley · 22/12/2012 21:29

Wear what I have got, ebay a quarter of my wardrobe, only buy things I love.
Say the same every year.Grin

floradora · 22/12/2012 22:01

Stop buying cheap clothes i never wear

sarahseashell · 22/12/2012 22:24

I've decided to go as far into 2013 as possible without buying any new clothes. Am going to wear what I've got, not 'save things' and try to be a bit more organised and try different combinations of things etc rather than buying anything else

Beaverfeaver · 22/12/2012 23:14

I have tiny wardrobe so have never over stoked up on clothes and what I have i love.

However, my underwear drawer is a whole other story.

I could easily chuck the whole lot away and start again and I really need to!

DolomitesDonkey · 23/12/2012 08:37

I've had an extraordinary year where I vowed not to buy anything new at all and instead wear what I have (i.e., the spare wardrobe full of clothes with labels on which I thought my husband didn't know about...).

In the end I've bought 1 pair of breeches, 1 jumper and 1 pair of jeans. Get in me! I still have loads of stuff with labels on, so I will continue with my plan.

I'm also just buying real "quality" - e.g., designer or high-end high street.

Oh and new bras because I'm having a really hard time getting my head around the cup-size I actually am as opposed to what is socially acceptable unless you're Bet Lynch.

i too would like to know how you are using pinterest Smile

drmummmsy · 24/12/2012 11:00

oh what's this pinterest thing all about?

QueenCadbury · 24/12/2012 13:57

I'm definitely no expert but I just love browsing through women's fashion and then clicking on things I like and then looking at other people's boards that they have pinned them onto. But I also l love browsing through magazines but this is a free alternative Xmas Grin. I only pin outfits onto my own board that I really love and can see myself wearing ( I also have a fantasy board for all the gorgeous designer evening dresses and Chanel handbags! ). Since doing it it's given me a clearer idea of what I like and items that would work well in my wardrobe. I also search for things I already own, like today I searched for burgundy cardigan and although most pins were worn with neutrals there were some colour combinations such as with mustard that I just never would have considered.
I think you need to love browsing as much as I do though for it to be of any use. I could spend hours on there, more than on mumsnet!

Wheresmypopcorn · 24/12/2012 14:02

I will not spend lots of money on bras. I will buy more winter clothes (sweaters etc). I will buy a new sports bra. I will buy a sexy yet classy going out outfit.

lupo · 25/12/2012 19:03

great thread . I managed to get rid off all the clothes I don't wear and only buy things I really love. Need to stick to this and pay more for better quality items - I wanted the hobbs kasia coat but couldn't bring myself to spend over 200 so got a zara one - but it is not as warm and I still want the hobbs one. This year I will buy what I want but less and if I really love something I will snap it up and not search for a chaper not as good version.
