I think brogues are classic enough that you can always get away with wearing them but you may not look so "on trend" or whatever next year.

I've only worn mine a few times this year so will be in the same unfashionable boat next year.

No, so long as you get a plain well made pair in a neutral colour. I know a fabulously stylish woman who has worn brogues for donkeys years and she looks awesome. If you like them (and I also do) wear them.

I have a black patent pair from Clarks. I will still be wearing them next year. They are great!

I tried really hard to like them as they looked good on some people but just didn't work on me. I will be glad when they are done. Sorry!

I know what you mean.To take an example from clothes, I loved bird prints when they came in, but am now tired of their ubiquity and how many cheap, tacky versions there are around, and wouldn't buy.

But on brogues, I think madmomma is right - if they are plain and classy and a versatile colour, no reason they should date. They are after all a classic show shape. However, if they are not good quality and/or or have details/ are in colours which are very 2012, best avoided, I'd think.

'shoe shape', not 'show shape'!
