Hello, I've been lurking on a few perfume threads, and am in awe of your expertise! I was hoping to beg a quick favour - could you tell me what type of perfumr I favour? DH going to Les Senteurs (I hope!!) to choose me something for Christmas. My favourites are:

Chanel No 5
Dior Addict
Stella McCartney
(random) Cabotine de gres!

Thanks so much in advance

Your taste is quite varied - do you mean the amethyst colored rosy Stella (light rose)?

No 5 is a classic aldehydic perfume
Addict is a floriental - done by Thierry Wasser who is currently the in-house perfumer at Guerlain - he has a distinctive, almost syrupy style (try the new Guerlain flankers)
Cabotine is a classic green

So it's not easy find a common theme, except that you have a classic vibe and a like many different types of perfumes. Based on these, you might like a bottle of Chanel No. 19 or 22 or one of Thierry Wasser's very limited distribution perfumes (for example, Sweet Dreams by a Lab on Fire), but I don't think Les Senteurs sells them.

Since you like many different things, I'd really recommend this lovely coffret (can also be bought here with free shipping) - it's a bit like a Quality Street tin, lots to love (and it will not be a problem if you don't like everything).

Une Rose is a rose soliflore that reminds me a bit of Stella, but is better imo; The Portrait of a Lady is a darker patchouli rose. If you like lilac, En Passant is great - it is also slightly green. If you'd prefer a classy fruity floral (melon and flowers), Le Parfum de Therese is lovely. I also really like the melancholic Angeliques sous la pluie, opulent Une Fleur de Cassie and sweet and sad L'Eau d'Hiver.

Should I pick just one of them, I'd pick either Une Rose, En Passant or Therese (the small 50ml bottles are the more inexpensive option).

Your DH can also go to Les Senteurs with a list of your favorite perfumes asking the SA to make some samples based on them (which you could try at home). This way you could be surprised but also have some control over your choices.

Wow, thank you SO much! I'll let you know what I end up with.

The Stella McCartney I like is, I think, the first ever Stella fragrance, in the purple bottle. I'm also keen on some of the YSL perfumes, especially Paris - not really guided by price.

I had a full bottle of the original purple Stella. I loved it and used it up although I always got a rash from it.

If you like Paris and Stella, The Malle coffret collection (more details here) I mentioned above might be right for you then - Lipstick Rose is a fantastic variation of the YSL Paris theme.

I have the coffret myself and it is lovely. There are 12 perfume minis (5ml bottles) - a perfume to suit every mood and occasion.

Hi DonaAna - just a quick update, I went to Les Senteurs with DH in the end, to choose something for my birthday, which is this month (got too much other stuff for Christmas!)

End up choosing - Fracas! I just love it. Am so excited to get it on the day!

Thanks again for your help, I'll keep all your recommendations in mind. I also read your posts on the other threads.

Leo, happy you went there yourself, that's the best way.
Fracas is a great classic and a bold and daring choice, congratulations!
