I already use the oil cleansing method and am happy with it, but the recent cold weather and central heating are leaving little flaky patches of skin on my face. Does anyone have any tips?

Hi Frizzbonce
I have really dry skin too. Here's what works for me:

  • OCM but wring flannel out in warm rather than hot water. Hot is super-drying
  • Avoid steaming pores with flannel for too long (I do 5-10 seconds)
  • Only do OCM at night - in the morning I just wipe face with a bit of rosewater on cotton wool
  • The longer you can massage oil in for, the better. Aim for 10 minutes if feeling really dry
  • Avene Thermal Spring Water spray as a toner after OCM - it's about £6 from Boots. Feels lovely and cooling and skin looks better since I started using it. Also great at the end of the day if your skin feels dry but you need to go out and haven't got time to cleanse and re-do make up - a quick blast makes you look and feel much fresher
  • The best moisturiser I have found is Astral - £3 or so for a big tub. I use it day and night - an extra thick layer after OCM at night if skin is particularly dry
  • And the boring stuff - easy on the caffeine and alcohol, drink more water, eat well, sleep lots Smile

Looking forward to reading other people's tips

I thoroughly recommend Steamcream and if you buy it on ASOS here using code 'apology20' you can get 20% off. It was recommended to me on here. It's a very thick cream, full of natural goodness, that really clears any flaky skin I have, plumps up the skin, reduces pores, and acts as a primer too. It's just lovely and can be used anywhere on the body.

Thanks Lotta and Hyva! I will definitely give Astral a try - I've heard it's very good from numerous sources. And I will also give Steamcream a go. It sounds like something you use to get stains out of a carpet!
