Have had major wardrobe cull. Would like to put some stuff on ebay, but no idea what to do.

Hi everyone. As a result of the thread about having stuff in our wardrobes that we don't like or wear, I have had a major cull.

As a result of this cull I have some really quite nice (just not nice on me) stuff that I was about to take to the charity shop. But then I thought of maybe putting it on ebay? I have three dresses (two of which are pure silk) from Monsoon, and a dress from Fenwright and Manson, all of which cost me around the £100.00 mark.

I've never sold anything on ebay before though. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Forgot to add, these dresses have either never been worn, or worn only once or twice.

There is an Ebay section of mumsnet -- go there. They are very halpful.

My top ti would be list tonight -- so you don't have to pay listing fees. You can edit the listing later.

And don't expect anything like a 100 per item. IMO if you get 20 for each you are doing well.

Thanks mirpuppet. What do you mean by listing, sorry? Why would I not have to pay a fee if I did it tonight?

eBay are having a free insertion weekend so it would be free to list.

What size are the items?

And the listing is basically the name for your 'advert' on eBay.

Ebay makes it money in fees -- so it costs to list and you also pay a final value fee. Figure 10-15% of your sales price.

As you are new -- it would be good not to pay a listing fee. You would set your starting price at 20 pounds for example and not have to pay the usually pound or two to list/ advertise your item.

And as things often don't sell you don't want to pay listing fees when you don't have too.

The regulars on the Ebay board can explain it better.

But I have sold about 500 pounds worth of my unwanted stuff since October so it can be worthwhile; but it is very time consuming.

Thanks for the explanations re the listing fees people - I'm a total ebay novice as you can see! Only ever bought a couple of things off there myself.

I realise I probably won't get a huge amount for them. But even just fifteen quid an item will be sixty quid towards something I'll actually wear. And then perhaps I won't feel quite so guilty for chucking them.
