what size pearls for stud earrings?

Hi there

DH bought me a pearl necklace - single-strand and the pearls are 9-10mm each. I have some dangly pearl earrings but would like to get some studs to match. I know, it's like the early 90s over here or something.

I think that getting pearls the same size as the ones in my necklace as studs would look silly, but would it look mismatched to get smaller ones?

What size should I get?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

10mm is fine if you prefer it, but might be too heavy.
I'd say 4-5 mm might be easier to wear, I wouldn't call that mismatch with bigger size perals!

or get the same size, but dangly ones

10 mm studs wouldn't look silly! Wee pearl studs are pretty dated looking IMHO but large ones are lovely. Better to go for a more vintage look I'd say - <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?hl=nl&client=firefox-a&hs=0Bn&sa=X&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=542&tbm=isch&tbnid=27XErcy_6Gs6zM:&imgrefurl=www.royaltyandhollywoodjewelry.com/jewelry/audrey_hepburn_jewelry_diamond_and_pearl_earrings.htm&docid=hjpJZ5GsN4RodM&imgurl=www.royaltyandhollywoodjewelry.com/images/audrey_hepburn_jewelry_diamond_and_pearl_earrings.jpg&w=680&h=515&ei=DNzEUNTzMcnD0QWW5YGgCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=90&vpy=194&dur=2&hovh=195&hovw=258&tx=146&ty=114&sig=117994937117526150460&page=2&tbnh=122&tbnw=158&start=15&ndsp=31&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:0,i:133" rel="nofollow" target="blank">Here and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?hl=nl&client=firefox-a&hs=hCn&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=542&tbm=isch&tbnid=exb45joiF42vXM:&imgrefurl=fashiongamechangers.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html&docid=PEntceHBaexYFM&imgurl=3.bp.blogspot.com/-EyI6q67y4yo/T7rgKlXeO8I/AAAAAAAAAA0/IYPcmoNATW8/s1600/936full-audrey-hepburn.jpg&w=878&h=1280&ei=N9zEUOPkD_ON0wW-4GIDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=623&vpy=181&dur=485&hovh=194&hovw=134&tx=121&ty=170&sig=117994937117526150460&page=3&tbnh=145&tbnw=101&start=55&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:69,s:0,i:293" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here

See that is the problem - my mum wears little pearl studs. I think I even had some in the 90s. But I think 10mm might be too much? Too Dynasty? Make my earlobes go saggy?

I am going to have to stand at the mirror holding my necklace up to my ear aren't I.

Have dangly ones but not dangly round ones, they are sort of teardrop and look odd with the necklace.
