i have an interview for a PGCE place. Normally for an interview I would just go for smart trousers and top. But i think i need a suit don't i?

Im so clueless, and dont have much time for clueless shopping.

I hate suits..am thinking a skirt suit might be nice? with long boots? I dont wear heels, or dainty shoes. I feel self conscious of being 1.5 stone over weight-tummy is problem area mostly. Have heavy thighs and ample bottom so dont want short skirt or pencil skirt.

Black isnt good on me

what else? dont know...please help

oh...im skint but dont want to look cheap! could get something off ebay if I knew what to look for!!

hettie yes shoes alot like that, a teensy bit smarterish!

boots arent too bikery. That style but office acceptable (in my mind anyhow!)

takataka · 28/11/2012 19:52

i like that cardi soprano

is that acceptable do you think?

PebblePots · 28/11/2012 19:55

Like the matalan dress too, hettie's 2nd link, looks nice with that necklace & gorgeous colour. That sort of look definately looks smart enough, don't need to worry about a jacket imo!

takataka · 28/11/2012 20:12

unfortunately that dress is not in my size! and is an on-line exclusive...bloody typical!

But at least now I know what i am looking for. Thanks soooo much. I feel less hot and sweaty about it now that i know i wont have to wear a suit

Yes I like them too. The first one looks more casual so will need to smarten it up with jewellery, but maybe it's just that picture! I think I like the cow print one better, looks smarter cos more structured.

hettie · 29/11/2012 08:36

Morning....
dd was sick last night so I am confined to the sofa and CBBeebies!...however this has given me some time to surf for dresses.....
I think the patterned dresses are lovely, but for some reason I seen block colors as smarter . Do you have a John Lweis near you- only they have a prmotion on today... red wrap dress
plum dress
http://www.johnlewis.com/359595/Product.aspx teal and blue. I think the phase eight one is the smartest. You could wear a smart black cardi with that and some jewelery and look great....

hettie · 29/11/2012 08:37

opps teal dress here

PebblePots · 29/11/2012 11:16

Plum one lovely, might get that myself, good find hettie!

PebblePots · 29/11/2012 11:21

Baby asleep on me, so still looking at dresses too! I'm going to end up spending £££ as keep seeing ones I like

polyhymnia · 29/11/2012 11:30

Think the plain wrap dresses are ideal. Can easily be worn with interesting but not sparkly necklace.
Really wouldn't go with those White Stuff - dresses - they are 'fun' but not structured enough for an interview, IMO.

hettie · 29/11/2012 12:10

yeah pebble I like the phase eight 'sapphire' too.... thing is I am slight of frame and small of boob, and so V necks/wraps don't tend to flatter me that much- need a bit more structure

takataka · 29/11/2012 13:13

poly i was thinking the same about the white stuff dresses after i logged off last night. I love them, but the plain ones are smarter arent they

I really like the plum dress style/shape but i dont think the colour would suit me...a bit heavy and draining i think. But itd probably be worth looking at in real life

I think the Phase 8 and the Teal dress would be better for me

not sure i have the confidence for a red dress at an interview!!

im going into town tomorrow, so ill go to John Lewis (or maybe i wont...i have a feeling John Lewis has moved out of town...House of Fraser/Debenhams would have similar i presume?)

Thank you pebbles and hettie i really appreciate this. I hope your dd is feeling better hettie

Im just home for lunch, so off again in a minute

Might look in TKMaxx tomorrow also...

oh..just realised the Phase * dress is Debenhams....great

(wish i was slighter of frame and smaller of boob hettie Grin)

takataka · 29/11/2012 13:17

Im a bit slow...excuse me!! have just realised all these dresses i can order on-line. That is even better. Cheers

OP posts:
hettie · 29/11/2012 13:46

no worries- good luck in the interview

PebblePots · 30/11/2012 13:29

Hope you get something, let us know!

takataka · 30/11/2012 13:37

Spent the last 1.5 hours trying on dresses!

There was too much cleavage with the Phase 8 dress and the skirt was too straight...I felt all toys and arse...

The real Planet dress was dice, but there was also a red one, a purple one, a stone one and a patterned one in Planet!

My preference was the patterned one but I'm not sure it is appropriate. It was purple and black and cream, and may have hinted at snake skin!! I'll link to it when I get home

Also, having trouble deciding between a 14 or a 16; my arse says 16, the rest of me 14. Need to take someone with me, or talk to their personal shopper I think

Glad you have pointed me in this direction though, would never have been looking at these kinds of dresses left to my own devices

OP posts:
takataka · 30/11/2012 13:39

Tits and arse, not toys

OP posts:
Wilding · 30/11/2012 14:02

Might be worth getting a personal shopper at some point, if you're really stuck? I know it sounds poncey but they're free at John Lewis and Topshop and should be happy just finding you one outfit, you can give them a set budget. I had a session with at Topshop and ended up with some brilliant work outfits that I never would have thought of buying otherwise.

PebblePots · 30/11/2012 14:04

Ok, straight vest top underneath sorts out any low cut issues. I always wear with wrap dresses. I'd say go for the larger size, too tight in the bum is a no-no & you'll feel uncomfortable. Also it may shrink in wash a little.

The purple sounds best of all those colours, purple suits everyone. Look forward to sewing the pic those ones, I'll reserve judgement on the snake skin!!

3littlefrogs · 30/11/2012 14:07

I am watching with interest.

I have put on a bit of weight and now find that a dress and jacket with boots looks better than separates. (my waist is a bit harder to find these days).

Have also done dress, jacket and dark tights with shoes, but that can look a little bit frumpy. If the boots are smart, I agree with the suggestion of a jersey wrap dress - they are flattering if you have a few bulges.

Frontpaw · 30/11/2012 14:08

I don't tend to wear suits these days. For interviews I wear really smart black tailored trousers, heels and a light top (not too patterned or bright) and a jacket. I get very hot and sweaty when nervous so wear short sleeves even in winter for interviews! Put on a little nice jewellery and. It too much slap. Clean nails (neutral polish)m tidy hair and polished shoes. That's all you need. Good luck for the interview.

PebblePots · 30/11/2012 14:16

Or Teal!
