As the first thread is nearly full, I've set up Part 2

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 21/12/2012 21:22

Confused Why couldn't I find it?? Thanks cardoon.

vacuuming · 21/12/2012 22:33

nope, it's not suddenly Madame glamour, it's suddenly I or suddenly 1 and is a no 5 dupe. I wear no 5 and it smelled pretty close to me, though I just sniffed the bottle rather than sprayed.

YouOldTinsellySlag · 22/12/2012 10:45

That's news to me vacuum- I thought they only made one. Perhaps they have expanded on that success and bought out another? Although I haven't seen any publicity.

Now if they could make one called Suddenly Gucci Envy-a-like I'd be down there with a shopping trolley...

vacuuming · 22/12/2012 14:08

suddenly woman I is the name of it, saw it again today Smile

ThatsNice · 22/12/2012 15:02

Oooooh very very yummy is my newest sample!! Love this thread and my lovely, lovely growing perfume collection thanks to you guys! Ahhhh... Amber narguille Smile

CointreauVersial · 22/12/2012 15:25

ThatsNice - that's one of my new-found faves too. A hot contender for the Christmas Day fragrance.

Thanks to lovely Cardoon I have three new samples to try. I tried a tiny bit of Lonestar Memories yesterday, mmmm, very interesting and definitely right up my street. One I couldn't stop sniffing.

Today, Tauer's Une Rose Vermeille - not so good. It's so sweet and jammy it's making my teeth hurt, like roses in sugar syrup.

CointreauVersial · 23/12/2012 13:04

As I'm at home all day today, I thought I could safely step out of my comfort zone, so I'm slathered in Bal a Versailles.

DH (once he'd picked himself off the floor) said it instantly transported him back to his twenties, when his fragrance of choice was Kouros. They have the same civet note, it would seem.

It's quite assertive, but not bad, and I'm interested to see how it develops.

coffeeinbed · 23/12/2012 14:23

Cointreau, that's what I've got as well. Grin
I needed some bits and pieces from the shops and sprayed some.

Nice and dirty, I like it!

FellatioNelson · 23/12/2012 16:10

I have found one. I have found one I truly love. Grin

It is very expensive. Sad

Actually I have found three I really like, but only one of them do I have no qualms about whatsoever. I've tried it three or four times now, and it's the baby for me and no mistake.

here

The other two I really like are also from this range, Muguet Blanc and Bois d'Iris, but I have reservations that they might be a tad sweet/overpowering. That one ^up there is heavenly.

FellatioNelson · 23/12/2012 16:16

It would appear to be mainly for men. Confused

DonaAna · 23/12/2012 16:27

Fellatio, it's chic to wear masculines. Colognes are very unisex anyway.

If you enjoy Cologne Noire, try some other Mark Buxton scents as well.
He has done many Comme des Garcons perfumes (cool, cerebral, unisex) and also a line under his own name. Sexual Healing eh? Wink

You might also poke around a bit at the men's department. Take for example Chanel's Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Eau Sauvage. And you migh love some of the Hermessences - Paprika Brasil and Poivre Samarcand for example.

Bal a Versailles is great. A big ballgown of a perfume. i have the extrait version and adore it.

babySophieRose · 23/12/2012 18:09

So, who is the winner? :)

DonaAna · 25/12/2012 08:34

As promised, I wore Nuit de Noel last night and might go for Coco today.
What is everyone else wearing for Christmas?

Any fragrant gifts? (I didn't get any - unless you count a book about grappa. A good well-matured grappa is about as complex as a bottle of perfume. I have a couple of artisanal bottles from a small distillery in Tuscany - perfection.)

kiwigirl42 · 25/12/2012 08:41

Merry Xmas everyone. I hope you all have a happy and peaceful day.
I've been so lucky and got given a bell jar of Serge Lutens Louve from DH. SO delighted! so guess what I'm wearing today?

coffeeinbed · 25/12/2012 14:58

I got Le Labo Iris.
Happy!

pocketandsweet · 25/12/2012 15:16

merry Christmas everyone. I got Cristalle Eau Verte, and some replacement of Biotherm Eau Vitaminee and 4711 ( my daily wake up go to scents). I also got the Le Snob book and Ellena's Diary of a Nose.

YouOldTinsellySlag · 25/12/2012 17:24

Mmm Cristalle Eau Vert is fabulous. I got Eau de Cartier so I'm very happy.

DonaAna · 26/12/2012 13:05

Lovely presents everyone!
Just in case someone is interested, the L'Artisan sale is on.

pocketandsweet · 26/12/2012 14:25

hmm DonaAna now I'm looking at the discovery coffret- Mure et musc extreme, la chasse aux papillons extreme, premier figuer extreme,L'eau de ambre extreme and traversee au bosphorus.... Has anyone smelt these? I love the name of the last one so much I might have to give it a go

coffeeinbed · 26/12/2012 16:05

I love Traversee - it's a softly sweet suede type of thing.

pocketandsweet · 26/12/2012 16:47

Thanks coffee .... I have ordered it -runs away and hides credit card

Have only tried the new Manifesto on a strip at an airport so no idea what it is like on skin.
Great name, makes me think of Isabella Rosselini.
But the perfume itself didn't smell very revolutionary. But let us hear how you like it - YSL has had some great mainstream perfumes.

Many L'Artisans are great, its one of the oldest niche houses and they have been doing original and evocative perfumes for a long time. I have many favorites from them, Dzing!, Safron Troublant, L'Eau and Seville for example.
Mure et musc is a fruity floral or more accurately a blackberry musk. A comfort scent I wear when I'm sick and tired.

Pocket there is a very evocative brief description of Traversee in Le Snob: Perfume - worth seeking out.

I still have sinusitis so can't smell almost anything. Wearing Indochine by PG, too spicy and piercing for me (have a feeling that I can smell only a part of it - the annoying high-register part). Absolutely hated Bottega Veneta the other day too (although I normally like it) so should perhaps not bother until healthy again.

anniewoo · 26/12/2012 21:58

DonaAna as you are on the site- what perfumes are good copies of Sweet Pea? Also Hyacinths. Thank you so much for informing us of Surrender To Chance

DonaAna · 27/12/2012 09:36

Annie I'm not an expert on florals but Antonia's Flowers has a sweet pea fragrance, Floret, but it is expensive. Bas de soie by Serge Lutens is a haunting hyacinth. More ideas here. Iirc Chanel No. 19 and Silences by Jacomo also have hyacinth in there somewhere - Ivoire by Balmain possibly too.

Flowers in perfume rarely smell like flowers in nature (when using extraction from naturals, smells change during the process - and there is not a good synthetic equivalent to all scents in nature) - so these may not capture what you can smell in the garden. Many natural flowers cannot be exctracted and thus they have to be reconstructed from synthetics.

I also love hyacinths at home around Christmastime and used to grow sweet peas. I get the feel of the hyacinth - heavy, warm, opulent - from old traditional feminines (it's the rose-jasmine-orange blossom bouquet), say Grossmith Shem-el-Nessim - the smell my not be 1:1 but the feel is the same. Hyacinth note in perfumery is cool and very different from what I expected.
