Budding perfumistas walk this way- Part 2 of the Worst Perfumes ever

As the first thread is nearly full, I've set up Part 2

That's funny DonaAna ... I forgot about Dune. I like that you call it mean girl fragrance. I had a sample which I really didn't like but was persuaded by L.Turin review to try again but a def no for me. I think arranging a swap is a great idea. Unfortunately I only have the little Coco M sample most of what I am going to get rid of are full bottles ( so probably eBay). Penhaligons Bluebell, Korres White Tea, Bergamot and Freesia ( which is sheer and inoffensive but just sitting in my stash ) and a new full bottle of No.19 ( which I love and wear but I have so much). BTW Thanks for the Eucerin recommendation on another thread which has totally sorted my dry skin.

DonaAna · 30/11/2012 11:10

Great Pocket - Eucerin is really good stuff. (Smells not so great but really works for winter skin.) What strength of Ch No 19 do you have?

Finding out what repelling notes are is not simple. Perfumes are not made of violets and roses and sandalwood these days - the offensive thing might be a synthetic with a difficult long chemical name. There are a couple of chemicals that spoil a perfume for me (one commonly used musk is really stinky on me - take this from someone who loves fecal/wee-y/censored aromachemicals - and there is also a yukky over-creamy synthetic sandalwood molecule that I detest) but I am not expert enough to be able to say exactly what they are. And even if I did, there are no product labels that would help me to check before sampling - the INCI lists only list 20+ regulated chemicals common in naturals (geraniol, cinnamal, linalool, etc) and those lists exclude most substances used to create fragrances.

Narcisse Noir is true love.

DonaAna · 30/11/2012 13:56

I like L'Artisan gift sets a lot this year. Both the candles and the perfume sets.

CointreauVersial · 30/11/2012 14:40

Premier Figuier today. Figgy, but....twiggy too - smelled like a fig tree, leaves and all. Pleasant enough, soft almondy basenotes, but not half as nice as Ninfeo Mio - I could almost feel the sun on my skin when I wore that.

Katisha · 30/11/2012 14:44

Hello all. Can I barge in and ask about Yvresse. My Mum tried this on a perfume counter the other day and really liked it. However on reading up on it (thinking of getting it for her for Christmas) it seems this is a new formulation and not a patch on the old one which in turn was not as good as when it was Champagne.

I suppose as she liked the one in the shop it doesnt really matter, but I see there is quite a lot of the previous version knocking about for sale on the internet and wonder if I should go for that? How different would it be?

coffeeinbed · 30/11/2012 19:00

Katisha there most likely are slightly different versions, but if the new one is the one she likes that's then that's what matters and what I would get.

FellatioNelson · 01/12/2012 04:34

CV I snorted at figgy but twiggy. [glad] Glad to hear Premier Figuier smells like a fig tree. At least it does what it says on the tin!

I tried the last of my 4 samples from dueto yesterday, city love (forgot to post). I quite liked it at first but then as it mellowed out, there was something there I just wasn't keen on. Not repulsed like the other duetos I've tried but enough that I'm sure I wouldn't wear it again. So of the 4 samples, golden boy I couldn't even bring myself to try after sniffing it on a tissue. City oud was rather pleasant and I'd perhaps give it a whirl again. Lady cool I had to scrub off and city love a thumbs down too. Shame Hmm

shoeprincess2 · 01/12/2012 10:26

Yesterday was Coco EdT versus Coco EdP (I am awaiting my next batch of samples). I actually prefer the EdT and has reasonable longevity (7-8 hours).

CointreauVersial · 01/12/2012 11:04

ThatsNice - my Dueto samples arrived yesterday, but I haven't sniffed yet. I'll report back.....

kiwigirl42 · 01/12/2012 12:09

smell like a tarts boudoir this morning - managed to spill Ambre Sultan all over my dressing gown and Tubereuse Criminelle over my hands!
I am sitting reading before I have a shower and really enjoying the mixture though cats are keeping clear of me (about a 10m radius!)
Nice to have perfume again after a migrainey week without (except for odd wee bit of Louve on pillow)

kiwigirl42 · 01/12/2012 14:12

Prada are releasing a new perfume called #14 Rosetto which sounds VERY similar to Lipstick Rose

I have Jo Loves Gardenia on the back of my hand (now I've showered and scrubbed off the Serge Lutens incident).
It is a very true smelling gardenia, just like the tiare necklaces you get in Tahiti. I adore the smell but white flowers tend to give me a headache unless heavily orientalised or similar (eg the dreaded Tubereuse Criminelle!)

DonaAna · 01/12/2012 17:05

Another day with Narcisse Noir.
Need to give Coco a chance soon...

CointreauVersial · 01/12/2012 17:35

Ambre Narguile today. I went to a Christmas Market and thought it was the most appropriate. I smelled as delicious as the mulled wine!

kiwigirl42 · 02/12/2012 00:16

I love the sound of Ambre Narguile. I used to wear Coco and then Coco Madamoiselle for years (the latter was my wedding perfume). Always got comments when I wore Madamoiselle. Must sniff it again when in town next.

I got a bottle of Acorelle Almond Wheat and its very smooth and lovely. Dries down to a lovely apricot musky yum. I'm going to give it to MIL as its soft enough to suit her plus she never spends any money on herself.

YouOldSlag · 02/12/2012 16:53

kiwigirl- I hope I get a daughter in law like you one day.

ThatsNice · 03/12/2012 08:17

Amber narguille sounds really lovely! It is on my stc wish list which is growing rather long Grin
Coco for me today Smile

kiwigirl42 · 03/12/2012 11:33

youoldslag my MIL is wonderful. We've always got on well but 5 yrs ago I developed chronic migraines and she will do anything for me - child care, walks dog, house work etc even cleaning up my vomit few weeks ago. Wouldn't change her for the world

shoeprincess2 · 03/12/2012 11:56

I like hearing nice MILs stories. My MIL (though me and DP aren't married) is fab too. We moved house in August when I was 38 weeks pregnant. She came and cleaned the bathroom top to bottom (after the builders had made a mess). And brought a huge cool box full of food. MILs get a bad press. So, I've picked her a lovely fragrance this year for Christmas- Chanel Chance Eau Tendre!

I'm eyeing up Violet Blonde in the Debenhams sale Kiwi- down to £43.20. Hmmmmm.... Xmas Grin

I have two sons and will hopefully get two nice DILs once day that I can talk perfume with. You are giving me hope!

shoeprincess2 · 03/12/2012 12:21

I have 2 boys as well. We shall just have to talk perfume here for lots more years!

DonaAna · 03/12/2012 13:05

I have a wonderful MIL too.
Slightly tired of Narcisse Noir. This is going to be the last day with it for a while. Wore Coco yesterday, it's really great on a cool day.
Ambre Narguile is a great Christmas perfume!

shoeprincess2 · 03/12/2012 13:28

I wore L'air du desert marocain yesterday. It really is beautiful. Just received some samples, so trying out Teint de Neige. It is incredibly powdery and smells like I have stuck my head in a bag of marshmallows. I am liking it so far.

After reading about oud on s&b, I asked dh to bring me some back from Dubai where he was for work. He picked through lots and lots of perfumes and found one that he liked that wasn't too overpowering and that was an average price (he said about £90). No idea what it's called as the writing is in Arabic but its from aoud gallery. Two friends asked me separately what perfume I was wearing today, both telling me that it was a really lovely smell! Really chuffed, my dh did well and thank you s&b Grin
