Cashmere really warmer?

That's it really, I want to buy my dad a warm jumper that's not bulky and I've heard people raving about cashmere but I'm not sure if everyone loves it because it feels nice or because it actually is warmer too - any ideas??

it's REALLY warm. but as it's expensive it can tend to be used very thinly, usually around 1ply. i have a 3 ply cashmere jumper and i generally can't wear it indoors! I wear it to midwinter rugby and if the heating breaks down but that's about all.

Cashmere is definitely warmer than wool gram for gram. It's vital you follow the care instructions since it's so expensive and a very delicate fibre. Cashmere pills more easily but a good quality jumper is an investment and will last a long time.

urgh, I hate the smell of mothballs... might buy him a couple while I'm shopping away though

I find it a bit too warm on it's own. I suspect the woolovers cashmere merino mix would be a good compromise

Cashmere is too warm for me, but merino is just right. I've just bought a merino pullover from Uniqlo - presume that they do men's ones too. The woolovers merino/cashmere. mix pills very badly - not recommended. (Their lambswool, British wool and cotton/silk stuff is OK though).

thanks for the tips, I'm looking for something really warm because our house is pretty cold (no double-glazing, high ceilings, wooden floorboards...) and dad always finds it too cold even if we have the fire/heating on so I thought I'd try and get him something to wear here so he feels comfortable

Marks and Spencer, Gap- they have quite good range

John Lewis have a good selection of men's cashmere too- DH has a couple of their v neck jumpers. Their ladies cardies I think are slightly thicker/ better quality than M&S for about £5 more; haven't got any men's cashmere from M&S to compare though.
