So what do I make of this?

Feel this is the start of many threads I may make this year. I'm staring 50 in the face this year. Feel I look ok, still size 8, blonde hair no grey, runner so still look lithe. But just been in the company of someone who wasn't surprised I'm 50 this year. So I must be looking old. Help!! What can I do to look more youthful?

It was either jealousy or just didn't register - maybe they were too busy wondering where you have your hair done to think that you couldn't possibly be 50.

I think some people are 'ageless ' though - they don't look their age but then try don't really look any other age either. My lovely mum is 66 and still has mostly natural shiny brown hair, hardly any wrinkles, a lovely figure and great fashion sense (oh please let all that be hereditary :) ) but whilst she in no way looks her age, I couldn't say she looks in her 50s either, she kind of looks too good for that too but then it starts getting daft and I realise I couldn't give her an age.

Basically, you know you look great for your age so don't let a lack of a comment from someone make you think otherwise!

Thanks for so many lovely replies. I hope I don't dress as mutton but I agree you have to be ever so careful and becoming classic dresser is probably way to go. I do wonder about hair colour and if I should have it a bit shorter- will think about that one.
I was always told I looked loads younger than my age BEFORE I had my 3 children. Never now!!
Have fair skin as well which doesn't help on the wrinkle front.

I think going shorter can be ageing, but I guess it depends on the condition of your hair. Isn't Madonna about 50? Couldn't see her with shorter hair without making herself look older
