Is there a cure for combination hair?

I have long half highlighted hair, the top gets so greasy by the end of the day that I end up washing it again. I've tried not washing it for a week to try and balance it out, tried just washing the top too.
I've tried batiste and tresemme dry shampoo along with talc, nothing works! Or it makes me hair smell weird :(

Is there a hair mask or something to dry out the roots? I have it highlighted to help but now it's not working.

Help!

Noooooo

You aren't Samson! You can have another cut that will look great. Open your mind. Honestly.

I have this hair too! The best shampoo I've found is the body-shop ginger dandruff one (although I don't have dandruff, just used to get a sore scalp sometimes before I found this). I then put the tiniest bit of conditioner on the ends only and use an argan oil serum. I still wash my hair everyday though. I never use heat, I let it air dry and then when it's almost totally dry I put in in velcro rollers which stops any frizz. Phillip K says to wash your hair every day and I've got long hair in good condition with no split ends or anything, so I think it's OK. I just have greasy skin - my facial skin is the same. Pain in the bum, but no wrinkles! (am 40)

There's a pic of my hair on my profile.

I actually think there are some benefits to having hair like this (pain in the bum-ness not withstanding)... it's less likely to dry out and get splitty/tangly. If someone could point out the positives of oily skin, I'd be very happy to hear them!!

Oh my....your hair is glorious!

Blimey thank you Geet! I'm a tall bird too (well, 5'10) :) Have you had any success? I bought some Treseme 'liquid gold' last weekend which I'm really really impressed with - I have Moroccan oil and the ridic expensive Keratese oil/serum but at the moment I'm way preferring the Treseme because it's lighter and is making my hair stupidly shiny and soft... I've experimented with the whole 'no silicones, using bicarbonate' approach in the past, btw, and ended up with damaged hair - my hair seems to LIKE silicones (but only a touch, one pump!).

I really do think there's nothing wrong with washing your hair every day though - as long as that doesn't include liars of heated appliances (as I sad I NEVER use heat) other than the aforementioned pain in the bum-ness!

I'm 5'11" ! Great being tall, I love it :)
Wish i could just leave my hair!
I have wavy hair which looks awful if I just leave it, believe me, i have tried diffusing, mousse, gel, not brushing, not doing anything but run fingers through it when wet. It's really curly around my ears and flat in other bits. It's just awful if I leave it. :( Velcro rollers work only if I blow dry & leave them in for an afternoon!!
So I wash at night and leave to dry, tied back. Then I straighten it next day.
I know I should have short hair really but I feel feminine with long straight hair. I know maybe I should get it permed Confused

Have you tried the overnight sock bun method?

knitknack · 03/11/2012 14:26

Blimey just read my previous message - that's 'loads' not liars and 'said' not sad!!

GeetTallBird · 03/11/2012 15:19

Haha yeah that's what I thought you'd meant anyhow!!
Yeah I've tried the sock bun but it took over a night to dry. The sock kept coming off too!!
(((Must go and eat chocolate to stop me whinging))) :)

Your hair is not suiting you or how you love. There's no point in long hair if it's such hard work and poor condition. Please consider a shorter cut. There are so many sexy hairstyles that lift your face, reveal your cheekbones, show off your eyes etc.

I will shut up now.

How you live

You could search for oakoscar100 on YouTube - she has a 'how to defrizz without heat' video? < determined to find a solution >

GeetTallBird · 03/11/2012 20:42

...having whined for almost a week on here I have just realised that I haven't had to wash my hair today....and it's not greasy...could it be the bicarb Jamie! :)
I am going to google that video, thank you knitknack :)
