Looking for tweedy or black shorts to go over tights that aren't tight on thighs

for this kind of look (but with ankle boots or ballet flats, not knee high boots)

Has anyone seen any nice ones? I'd prefer high-ish waisted ones that are loose round the thighs, not hotpant style ones.

Agree about less mutton, I wouldn't wear a skirt as short as my shorts are.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/10/2012 13:51

No and I can't say I worry too much about mutton. I really wish I'd bought the whistles navy lace ones last year but dithered too long.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 15:07

Ooh navy lace shorts sound gorgeous MrsCB

I've just ordered these in black and burgundy (20% off atm with TWIRL20 code) I'm thinking I'll wear them with cropped (as in waist length) jumpers and blouses. Although I love the tiny leather/hotpant shorts plus big slouchy jumper combo I don't think it works that well on me.

I loved those Whistles lace shorts, but they were a teeny bit short for me. I like them a couple of inches above the knee. I had a great pair and wore them until they literally fell apart.

I think this lady wears shorts very well

noddyholder · 23/10/2012 15:49

Don't you find longer ones look frumpy with tights?

JuliaFlyte · 23/10/2012 15:55

I don't think so Noddy, depends what you wear them with. Of course I may be delusional Grin

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 15:57

I think it looks a bit frumpy - too much material with thick tights somehow? I'm sure some people can pull it off though (but not so much the lady in the photos, IMO).

Don't like it either thinks its like a middle aged tourist in London in winter!

AGeeksWife · 23/10/2012 16:05

I love this look, reminds me of Rachel Bilson in Hart of Dixie. I'm far too fat but just wanted to comment how much I like it anyway!

JuliaFlyte · 23/10/2012 16:34

No I have to disagree! I think it looks good, luxe and sophisticated.

You need really, really good thighs for short shorts. Only a small percentage of the population over the age of 18 have really, really good thighs.

noddyholder · 23/10/2012 16:55

True but my thighs are one of the only bits unchanged and I am mid 40s so am hanging on!

JuliaFlyte · 23/10/2012 17:02

I think there is a middle ground length-wise between "Japanese Tourist" and "Kylie Minogue Hotpants". Short and tight is mighty unforgiving.

noddyholder · 23/10/2012 19:42

Short and tight is a definite no!

NettoSpookerstar · 25/10/2012 16:05

these arrived today, they look great on and are really comfy.
I'm wearing with long sleeved black tee, black opaques, calf length grey boots and my favourite skull scarf
Have a couple of jumpers I want to go with them too, but am a tad skint this week.
