Looking for tweedy or black shorts to go over tights that aren't tight on thighs

for this kind of look (but with ankle boots or ballet flats, not knee high boots)

Has anyone seen any nice ones? I'd prefer high-ish waisted ones that are loose round the thighs, not hotpant style ones.

I've seen them in the shop and they looked lovely but wasn't wearing opaques so didn't try on. May pop back at the weekend though purely in the interests of research.

But CdeC have good and regular sales so hoping they'll be reduced soon.

MarshaBrady · 22/10/2012 13:01

Yep good legs. Also agree that ballet flat and ankle boots are much better that knee high.

I have Paul&Joe grey wool ones and I love them (other people love them too). Like flats most with them.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 13:04

Ooh, I bet there are lots on eBay. I don't want to spend more than £40 really.

Gap wool shorts.

38 here and wore them on Saturday and got lots of compliments. I don't think anyone was lying Grin. I think I'm now old enough to know what suits me and not wear something just because it's in fashion.

Check out the other thread called something about shorts, noddy. There's lots of us 30/40 somethings wearing shorts.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 13:59

Ah, Gap pleated black wool shorts look perfect QueenCadbury, thank you! Will be investigating them on my way home from work tonight :)

If you pleated are an option Whistles have a mid season sale on. A few shorts there at the bottom of the page.

MarshaBrady · 22/10/2012 14:02

OP - I'm 36, 5ft nothing and size 6-8. I got some tweedy shorts on line at H&M. £19.99 bargain. The quality and fit are good and not tight on the thighs.

I run 10k 2-3 times a week and shred 2-3 times a week. The effort I put in I will damn well show my thighs off in shorts and opaques!!!

IslaValargeone · 22/10/2012 16:07

This is potentially a difficult question to answer without causing offence, however, what kind of thigh measurement makes the wearing of shorts acceptable or not would you say?

Themilkybarisonme · 22/10/2012 16:13

I don't think it would be a measurement or age, more overall look and wobble. As others have said, flaunt it if you have it. I do not have it and will not be flaunting Grin at least not my thighs...

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 16:15

Isla I would say it's not about the thigh measurement at all, more about the firmness and lack of wobble iyswim? My thigh measurement is quite large (I think) for my size, because my muscles are quite developed. Not like a body builder I hasten to add, but they aren't skinny and straight like a models thighs.

OP posts:
IslaValargeone · 22/10/2012 16:17

Yes that sounds sensible.
:o at "I do not have it and will not be flaunting"

choceyes · 22/10/2012 16:26

I got 2 pair of tweedy shorts from Ebay. One a black pair from Topshop and a brown one from Primark. Both are lovely. Both the style that you describe. Yes definitely try ebay.

LeChatRouge · 22/10/2012 17:19

I wore my loose leather shorts with black opaques and flat Chelsea boots, a grey chunky knit, scarf and gloves on Sat. They made me feel great..... I def rocked that look!

There were lots of different styles and materials in Primark if you want to try some cheaper ones.

NettoSpookerstar · 22/10/2012 17:28

Loose leather shorts?
Have you a link to those?

LeChatRouge · 22/10/2012 17:38

No sorry, they are from a charity shop and I trimmed them and made them shorter.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 18:04

Just bought the Gap black pleated wool ones on my way home - they're perfect! Size down though if you ordered them, I needed a UK 4!

V nice noddy!

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 22/10/2012 20:51

Uk 4 Envy

Loving those noddy. Wish I could justify another pair of shorts!

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 21:10

Do you know what? I've just been trying on the Gap shorts with different tops and they are not right. They make me look like a school boy, especially with my broad shoulders. Need some higher waisted, less tailored ones for more girlyness and curves!

Turquoiseblue · 22/10/2012 21:12

I got these over the weekend here
