Looking for tweedy or black shorts to go over tights that aren't tight on thighs

for this kind of look (but with ankle boots or ballet flats, not knee high boots)

Has anyone seen any nice ones? I'd prefer high-ish waisted ones that are loose round the thighs, not hotpant style ones.

I've worn this look and Im a shortish 10 and mid 30's. Not incredibly toned but i don't actually give a shit. I wear mine lose with woolly patterned tights in a dark grey and i think they look rather nice.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 22:29

Turquoise you've linked to a cardigan Grin

That sounds really nice fuckadoodle.

try again

It s a nice cardi tho is it not?

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 22/10/2012 23:09

I think the woollyness and pattern of tights hides some sins (kids self).

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 22/10/2012 23:11

Oh i also wear them with grey ankle boots as I've heard that continueing the colour elongates the legs. Partly for that reason, but partly because i find it less fussy.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 23:12

They're v nice Turquoise. What's Cos sizing like? Do you need to size up or down or neither?

OP posts:
NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 23:13

Haha, I thought they were Cos because the cardi is! Don't worry I know what Oasis sizing is like. I might order them, thanks Smile

Notanidiot - the gap ones didn't work on me either - they were too pleated which as I'm short just doesn't work.

Did you see maureen's mango coated ones?

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/10/2012 07:12

mango

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 07:19

No I didn't mrscb, they are nice, and bargainous! I love mango.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/10/2012 07:23

Noddy found them I think and then Maureen got them and raved and I'm waiting for mine to arrive. Sizing is small I think.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 10:08

Hmm, concerned my non-stick-like legs wouldn't fit into the 8, and the 10 is sold out :( They're not exactly what I was looking for but I'm tempted after reading maureen's thread!

on the whole legs debate... i have got 2 lovely winter skirts... one is pink chord pleated and the other is grey tweed. they are both quite short (mid thigh), and im 30 - my legs always used to be my best asset but im feeling rather nervous wearing them, i wish i could get over that. im self conscious as my mum always said my legs were too thin and not to wear short things or skinny jeans or leggings. i know they are thin, but surely its nice to have thinnish legs? or is it a put off? they have a little bit of muscle but im hoping to get some more when i finally manage to do some shred.
i love the shorts look too...

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 10:34

Not wishing to insult your DM, but that's a very typical mum thing to say to a daughter. My mum once told me I have fat thighs (I'm tiny and they're muscly!!!) and I've been slightly conscious of them ever since, though not so much that I don't wear short things.

Your legs sound lovely and you should try shorts! And if they are on the thin side now they'll probably look nice forever and you could be wearing short skirts at 70 :)

jan2013 · 23/10/2012 10:37

aw thanks for the encouragement... its funny how your mum can say stuff and it has such an influence even now when we are 30ish. i guess it is a mumish thing to say. i will get confident in the skirts first and then maybe try the shorts... but i would never let mum see me in them as i know she would comment that its too short!

choceyes · 23/10/2012 10:47

What do you wear on your top half with the shorts? I was thinking slouchy jumpers, but I can't seem to find any slouchy enough. I think I want a nice black slouchy oversized one. Any recs?

NotAnIdiotHonest · 23/10/2012 10:49

choceyes if you're not anti-Topshop I saw a lot of properly slouchy ones in there yesterday that would look great with little shorts. This might have been one of the ones I saw, though it looks a bit more holey in the photo. Nice shape though. TS is getting a bit expensive for the quality lately :(

Oh, I think it was this one, but in black.

Golly Themilky - you're a total delight aren't you?

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2012 13:43

Mango coated shorts.....oh, I get it, very good......

I like the shorts over tights idea very much - I am 45 but with good legs.

Would prefer something a little longer, though, mid thigh???

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 23/10/2012 13:46

Jan. Ignore your mum! Its nice to have slim legs! Mine told me i have chubby knees.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/10/2012 13:48

Oh I get it now too so apologies to Themilky

Whistles had some in their sale Cointreau.

I actually think shorts easier to wear than mini-skirts although they're often shorter - for me it just feels a tad less mutton.
