Comfy all-purpose boots, do they exist?

I really need some new boots, I'm feeling very unfashionable in the ones I have:( Last year I lived in my black Fitflop Mukluks, very cosy but actually they're a size too big so I need a new pair this year. I normally covet the cowboy boot, but whilst I'm not bothered about being 'on trend' I have grown a bit bored of them. What I need is something that is comfy, looks good with jeans, but also with pencil skirts/shift dresses for work, is there such a boot that would work with both? I don't normally wear skinny jeans, I wear Gap Real Straight which I think will look naff with ankle boots? So any ideas??!!

They look lovely, would be great with jeans. I can't afford 2 pairs though, and they would look silly for work!

nice

I've got these and they are the best and most comfy boots I've ever had!

I have had lots of people complement and ask where they are from.

GreeenFingers · 22/10/2012 11:39

I think you're asking too much. There isn't a shoe that looks good with everything.
I'd go for ballet pumps or similar for dresses and an ankle boot for jeans,

maybenow · 22/10/2012 11:43

I've come to the conclusion that there is no 'all purpose' boot - i've got merrel oslo for weekends and jeans and a pair of finer brown boots for dresses/work.

Can you not make your fitflop boots work another year with jeans by wearing thicker socks and buy a new pair of work boots this year and then new casual boots next year?

Cluffyfunt · 22/10/2012 11:45

Sorry
Mine are not ankle boots Blush

shelldockley · 22/10/2012 11:48

I love the DM boots! They're the kind of thing I fancy, although still not sure how they'd look for work?

maybenow, I know you are right, but I was hoping to find something! I did that last year with the thick socks, but really, because they're fur lined boots, they got a bit too sweaty!

I do need boots for work though Greenfingers, I have quite a walk and I really feel the cold.

Riding boots may fit the bill? I bought some from Russell & Bromley a few years ago, and they still look great - they're very finely lined, so a bit of added warmth, but go with dresses and jeans.

I had some gorgeous Clarks riding boots a couple of years ago but for some reason they were very uncomfy so I ebayed them. I think I will look out for anther pair though as you're right, they might be the only thing that fit the bill! What colour though? Most of my work outfits are black, or are worn with black opaques, but black boots and blue jeans seem to be a bit of a no-no?

too chunky?

Think they come in black too.

I am wearing Fly London Beam boots. They are actually my work boots as they are quite smart (and I can pull them on quickly in the morning), but are very very comfortable and would wear them as 'home' boots too but I already live in my rocket dog boots at home. They are good for big calves, but not for wide feet.

shelldockley · 22/10/2012 14:55

I really like the fly boots, I've found these, are they too naff? I know they're not going to be top of the style stakes when my main concern is comfort:

I have the DM ones you linked to from Amazon. They are bloody lovely. I have them in brown though. Quite tight across the instep to start with but softened nicely and i live in them now.

I wear them with leggings, skinnies and dresses.

ooh, thank you op, I was about to start a very similar thread.

I was wanting something very similar, but think I might be asking too much from one pair of boots to cover smart / casual / work / kicking leaves in the park with toddler / jeans / skirts / leggings.

I was just about to decide that I would spend the winter worrying about it and eventually it would be time to get my summer shoes out instead - but I will watch this thread with interest to see what suggestions come up!

beela · 24/10/2012 22:05

I like these ones?

I recently bought those- www.clarks.co.uk/p/20350958- the first pair I bought from clarks for the last 10+years and they are surprisingly nice and comfortable and fashionable (if only I say so myself ;) ).
