Liberty I have an airer for drying knitwear flat. Basically a square of mesh on four plastic legs. Lets air circulate all around so knitwear dries quickly but it does take up space. Better than towels I guess? Got it from Lakeland I think.....

Hello lovely people. 28 hours of long distance, I swear it's worse coming back. Car, short haul, long haul, train, taxi. Am beat.

Will catch up properly but yes to hand held steamer! thought before that I would love one.

shopafrolic · 04/01/2013 15:14

Welcome back Marsha!

Thank you! Smile

It's really nice to see you all properly. Not through spectrum of very slow wifi connection Grin

Dh is winging it I can hear him making an espresso I see he is tackling jet lag straight on. Ds2 wants to go 'out', which means in car. Barmy! I'm shivering my mind thinks it 's 3am will try and stay up.

libertychick · 04/01/2013 16:05

Thanks shop - I did consider something like that before and I think I will get one (or two) - it is the space thing, more clutter in the house but drying on towels takes forever.

Welcome back Marsha - sympathies with the jet lag - my DH is a kiwi so familiar with the feeling. We haven't done the journey with DD yet but I gather from friends and family that it can take a week or so for them to adapt.

DonaAna · 04/01/2013 16:14

Ouch Marsha let's hope the jet lag is over soon.
Your type of jet lag is the worst - hope you get over it soon. The upside is that if you are unable to sleep in the early morning hours, you can browse the sales Wink I'm waiting for the final reductions crunch.

Sorry about the good housekeeping vibe here. January is not exactly the moment for fresh fashion ideas... I still find winter clothes dull although recent purchases have cheered me up a bit...

MarshaBrady · 04/01/2013 18:07

Yes definitely Dona! A great time indeed. No really I agree with the hand held steam cleaner. The pleats on the Lanvin crease when I sit down. I need to stash one in a cloakroom for mid-party freshen Wink. I would love one. I meant to ask a while ago then got sidetracked.

Liberty ah NZ is very long too. Ds1 is 7 and is very easy now, in fact loves it. Ds2 was fine at 3 but found the last 7 hour leg from Abu Dhabi to London a bit dull. But the air crew gave him enough crackers to last a life time. The 13 hour leg is big but if they sleep for a long time it's not too bad. The dc slept like logs lucky things. Although felt a bit sorry for the couple behind who had a very wakeful 1 year old on the 13 hour bit.

And I watched about 7 films.

The dc seem fine now and playing together, bizarre! They may crack it pretty quickly, hopefully. I will take longer I know it.

Pickled love those J Brand agnes, do you have three different colours? Fabulous if so. I keep reading back and forth so may have misremembered in shambolic state.

Fritzi love your Me&Em dresses! They will look fantastic on you.

Amber that much for Stella plastic makes me sad too. Also non leather £££ shoes, couldn't do it.

Emo lovely to see you too, shame about the Goat dress. But it has to be perfect I think. Which Gucci flats did you get from NaP?

Shop great work on Missoni scarves!

Am still awake, so far so good.

pickledsiblings · 04/01/2013 18:58

Hi Marsha, well done you for not keeling over. I have J Brand Agnes in khaki, grey and black and I love them.

Dona, my new deep mulberry coloured J Brand cords arrived today and they are good, so soft and velvet-like actually. I loved reading your rationale for why cords weren't you.

Agree with you all about the sewing on of buttons and washing delicates...te-di-ous.

Decameron · 04/01/2013 20:25

Welcome back, Marsha.

Shopafrolic, I am 40 and just ordered a pair of navy Bowies. I ordered them before but returned them for a pair of the prune Ash virgins. However, I found them on sale on www.brandboudoir.com/ and was sucked in again!

Also rubbish at sewing on buttons and get the drycleaner to do it. Blush I bought a Goat cardigan from TK Maxx (I've been missing a trick, I rarely check their website) today so hope the buttons last!

The Me & Em sale was good, wasn't it? I love their clothes.

Enjoy the weekend.

Annianni · 04/01/2013 23:23

Sorry to butt in... can someone tell me how high the bowies are?

I've tried the thelmas and they were too high for me.

Also, what's the difference between the bowies and the beas?

Thanks.

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2013 04:37

I really like the Bowies, especially the suede. That look with black skinnies and Marant or Ash can't remember on pin is one of my favourites (too cold to go to big Mac am on iPhone in warm bed).

Decam lovely to see you. Am sure they look great on you.

Dona swoon at icy pastels at Balenciaga. Love those.

Pickled aren't they lovely and soft! Almost like velvet, sumptuous. I had a pang of oh would love those and have to remember I have them already. In the teal blue colour but loved the burgundy too.

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2013 04:38

Hi Annianni not sure, some one will know more about Ash.

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2013 04:40

Actually deep mulberry is a better description.

shopafrolic · 05/01/2013 08:12

anniani they look exactly the same on the Ash website don't they? Not sure what the difference is but am happy to measure the Bowie's when they arrive.....

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 05/01/2013 08:13

When you say high if you mean heel height the site says 6cm

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 05/01/2013 08:14

But buy from the Anna site as they are cheaper.....

OP posts:
Annianni · 05/01/2013 08:38

Thanks, different websites give different heel measurements Hmm

I might just order some if there's any left when I get back from sainsburys.

I just need to decide on the colour, I love the prune and navy. But dsd has just given me a pair of burgundy superga, so do I really need another pair of shoes in a similar colour?

I live in jeans and my main coats at the moment are a dark forest green pea coat and a big fat green parker. Decisions... decisions...

DonaAna · 05/01/2013 09:04

I don't own Bowies but find that a 6cm wedge heel is very manageable. 8cm and higher tends to get too teetery for me (at least on the uneven streets of Rome). I tend not to wear high heels any more - spent my 20s in them. My mother was a shoe freak long before SATC - she has hundreds of shoes, including high-heeled 1970s style boots that seem to be making a comeback at Lanvin and Celine - but they really wrecked her feet. She now has to wear orthotics, Clarks, Ecco and trainers. Mortifying!

The knit jacket-cardigans have really filled a gap in my wardrobe. Regular cardigans are a bit too unstructured for me - I have a lot of them but don't really love them. Jackets and blazers are fine for work but not great for wearing at home. I really hate jersey layering tops - I realized anything that drapes over my bottom is all wrong. Hard to explain, but they make me feel that I'm ashamed of my body and in hiding (which I'm not - I love my body, and my shape is reasonably good), and they accentuate my bad bits (make me look pear-shaped). Slimline long-sleeved tees and turtlenecks and even V-neck sweaters emphasize the wrong parts in me, such as the beginnings of a pot belly over beltline Grin. This winter I think I've finally figured this out. The shapes that seem to work best are the jacket-cardigans, a voluminous but not too long cardigan, plus for slouching around long sweaters that are neither too close-fitting and drapey nor slouchy. Not sure if any of this makes sense, but it's interesting to fine-tune things like this. Makes shopping a lot easier too.

Went shopping for food and wine last night and found a new vintage shop on our main drag. Vintage is a bit of a taboo in Italy. I think you are supposed to either inherit your valuables or buy them new, and discreetly give everything you are done with to charity (eBaying is very new here too). But the vintage trend has been creeping up and new shops are emerging even in the conservative neighborhoods. This shop had lots of interesting stuff, probably locally sourced as it reflected what I see local people wearing - I spotted two Chanel jackets (neither my style, both very appealingly priced - about 50% of what you'd pay on eBay.fr) plus very good vintage Armani and Missoni pieces. Bought nothing, but nice to know that it's right there where I normally shop for milk and wine. Grin

Annianni · 05/01/2013 10:38

The Anna site had sold out by the time I had finished putting my details in.

So I've just ordered them from here with free delivery.

shopafrolic · 05/01/2013 12:38

Dona I read your comments about cardigans with interest as I've never succeeded with them. I found my wardrobe much easier when I was office based, now I'm at home the lack of structured clothing is challenging. I don't suit slouchy, long line cardigans etc and I'm not a twinset type of woman either!
The scarf comments also resonated. I have lots in my wardrobe but only wear a couple of them. The new Missoni's are a huge hit though.
I went to my local Anna store today to take a look at the Bowies in anticipation of their arrival. They also had these ones:
www.shopatanna.com/shop-Ash-10/Bowie-multi-in-Multi-10
The sales assistant picked them up from their box and said, "oh no you didn't want the chavvy ones did you? You wanted the prune......"
I bet her boss is thrilled with her sales technique!
