I want a new piercing...

I don't know what, or why - but I keep thinking about it. Is 29 too old for a new one?

Any suggestions welcome... Failing that talk me out of it please!

I haven't stopped stretching my ears mind you Wink

But nobody notices usually because I don't wear tunnels, just plugs. Makes me feel more 'like myself'. But if I replaced all the ones that I have taken out then I wouldn't be able to take myself seriously as a parent ifyswim?

It's all very complicated and convoluted.

Summer, just out of interest was your nose done by a needle or gun? Often with gun nose piercings it will cause trauma to the area causing a blowout.

SchrodingersMew · 17/10/2012 20:51

I know exactly what you mean, I was covered and the thought of me staying like that just didn't seem right, I didn't feel it would be fair on DS.

I stopped stretching mines, I took it out (only 1 will stretch no matter how slow I try) at 32mm when I was pregnant, it now down to 11mm, I've been tempted to go back up a few mm but didn't see the point as it always ends up being taken out again for one reason or another.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 17/10/2012 22:18

Definitely one nipple, a tragus and 2 second holes in ears on my list. I love the surface piercings though, I'd get one on my wrist personally but that might be a bit radical for my poor old straight laced DH Grin

How about an eyebrow?

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 22:25

I had an eyebrow done as a teen but haven't seen it looking nice on anyone over 20.

SummerRain · 17/10/2012 22:36

Schro.... The cartilage was thinning and the bit between my piercing and nostril was starting to look different to the other side, not hugely noticeable yet but I didn't want to risk it becoming quite obvious. Funnily enough the only other piercing that ever gives me grief is the cartilage at the top of my ear.... I must have odd cartilage that doesn't like metal or something Confused

Sl1nkyMalinki · 17/10/2012 22:50

Fair enough mrscumberbatch Smile

So who has a nipple piercing here? I'm a bit concerned about healing time, I've always been lucky and don't want that luck to run out on something as sensitive as a nip!

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 23:00

I had both mine done but ditched for breastfeeding.

I think mine healed really quickly, only took about a month for the tenderness to be gone and after 3 months they were fair game- was changing jewellery like nobodies business.

Only advise would be, don't get it done in winter.

You go outside and OUCH cold. You go indoors and the heatings on and OUCH. It was pretty unpleasant!

Meggles76 · 17/10/2012 23:12

I am now 36. Let nose, belly button and top of ear heal up when I had DC as I sort of lost interest in them. However, have started loving them again more recently. Currently have 1 ear pierced 3 times and wear 3 small round gold studs. Get lots of comments about how pretty. Other ear is pierced once and I often wear 3mm ear stretchers in various designs. I would definitely consider getting tragus done in future.
I would also like my belly button redone. Do any of you know if it's ok to have a belly button redone??
I would also like a little gold stud facial piercing - by my lower lip. Quite like lip rings but not sure if I could live with it.
DH had his nipple pierced about 5 months ago without problem. He was fastidious in bathing it and it healed fine. I love it!!
I have a small triple star design tattoo on the inside of my wrist and a small design on my hip bone which DH loves.
DH also has tattoos. We are 2 academics, working in the public sector and joke that these things are our little bit of rebellion in a conformist sort of a way!

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 23:15

Absolutely fine to have a belly button redone. Might be a bit tougher because of scar tissue but scar tissue actually anchors piercings really well.

I don't recommend labret bars anymore as they destroy your gums. I looked after mine and though I wouldn't have any issues as the stud was the right size etc. Nope, still wrecked them!

Maybe a microdermal would be worth considering. (Surface piercing)

Sl1nkyMalinki · 17/10/2012 23:27

Ah I really wanted it done in the next few weeks! Would putting a plaster on it help? Sorry for all the questions, it's just really helpful to have someone experienced to ask. It's been 8 years since my last piercing Smile

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 23:34

Plasters not a good idea as you want to let it breathe as much as possible.

Theoretically, there's nothing to stop you from getting it done. But you will become so aware of the cold/ ridiculous shop heating that it may drive you a bit mad. Personally, I wouldn't do it again in winter as it was like shooting pains in my boob every time I walked outside. Lol.

Wear a bra with a bit of moulding on it so that you're nice and cushioned!

FYI: If you breastfeed any future children it will be like a sprinkler.

Can you not be persuaded into something less weather-temperamental? lol!

Sl1nkyMalinki · 17/10/2012 23:42

Haha! Yes I know but I've been counting down to getting it done! All my bras have moulding and plenty of support. Necessary Wink I just want to reclaim a boob and decorate it, sort of a 'well done boob' present Smile

I promise not to moan to you when it hurts?

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 23:48

Lol [pats boob] good job dude!

Report back once the deed is done!!

in the meantime

You clearly need some ridiculous nipple jewellery for when it's healed lol.

Oh and get it pierced with a stud, not a hoop. It heals better and is less likely to catch on things. Also hoops tend to get hair caught in them which can then 'feed' into your new nipple hole. Which is disgusting.

I'm not saying that you have a hairy chest, but if you're anything like me, my head casts and I find stray hairs in my bra often!

skyebluezombie · 18/10/2012 00:01

I celebrated turning 30 by getting a small stud in my nose. I work in a professional environment but it's never caused me any problems. I'm 40 now but haven't pierced anything else. ( have had two sets in each ear since a teenager)My friend got her belly button done at 40.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 18/10/2012 00:07

Lol mrscumberbatch! Loving the gold star Grin

xmasevebundle · 18/10/2012 01:12

I loveee this thread!

I have my tongue, i did have a 18mm ear(i took it out, now looks like a cat bum, sorry if thats TMI, its vile) Had my cartilgde(i think that how you spell it) the top of my ear, i pierced that myself and would NOT advise anyone to do it!

I did have my below done, but also took it out.

I am thinking about a lovely belly button piercing after my pregnancy and i have slimmed down!

SummerRain · 18/10/2012 01:23

I wouldn't feel me without my piercings... My mother keeps telling me I'll have to give in and take them out now I'm a mother but so far it hasn't impacted me negatively, I'm on playschool and school committees and have endless meetings with specialists for the kids and so far haven't come across anyone who hasn't taken me seriously because of the metal

I agree btw, get a bar not a ring in the nipple, I got a ring the first time abd it was painful and kept getting infected til I took it out. Never had a problem with the bar

Meggles76 · 18/10/2012 07:01

Thank you Mrs Cumberbatch, belly button definitely on to do list!
DH had a bar rather than a ring in nipple. I think it was easier to bathe and less fiddly.
I haven't experienced any negativity towards piercings or tattoos. Obviously I know people who say these things are not for them but I have never felt judged or not taken seriously. These things are part of who I am.

madamecake · 18/10/2012 08:26

I took all my piercings out a couple of years ago, but my nose piercing was my favourite. You can get some lovely tiny studs which are very subtle, which I would wear for work. Go for it!

SchrodingersMew · 18/10/2012 14:21

YY to boob piercing sprinkler! I don't think it helped that I had so much milk. Blush

Everything Mrs has said is right, plasters are a bad idea and the cold is hell on a new nipple piercing and rings aren't a great idea either.

Summer Did you have the cartlidge piercings done with a gun? If so, this will probably be your problem and you may have much better luck if done with a good piercer, a hollow needle and good high grade jewelery.

RE: Labret bars, metal ones are the devil, receeding gums are not something you want. You can get good flexible PTFE, bioplaste and teflon ones though that are much better but still not the best. I have a circle in my front 4 teeth (top and bottom) from an 8mm tongue bar, that wasn't my brightest idea in all honesty. Hmm

FiercePanda · 18/10/2012 14:44

It's my 29th birthday on Saturday, I might bite the bullet and get my tragus done as a present to myself. I've a friend coming to stay for the weekend and she usually encourages me to do something ridiculous fantastic. Grin

SummerRain · 18/10/2012 15:02

Yeah, I was a skint teenager when I had them done. Wouldn't go near a gun now and won't let the kids have gun piercings... I did dds ears myself.

SchrodingersMew · 18/10/2012 15:07

Oh dear, I hope you got hold of proper equiptment...

:o

Panda I have never had such an easy piercing as my tragus, if you are near Manchester I highly suggest a wee studio across from Afflecks Palace, I can't remember too well but think it is either beside or under a barbers, the piercers name is Karl. That's who did mines and I think he was brilliant.

SummerRain · 18/10/2012 15:11

Don't worry, I'm little miss hygiene when it comes to piercings Wink We live in the sticks so no piercists anywhere close... It was me or the gun and fron personal experience I knew which was safer. She's had them 4 years with no issues whatsoever.

Forevergirl · 18/10/2012 15:40

I have a bit if piercing fetish at the min im 25 and in the last 4 months had my tragus done both lobes done again and helix and I'm thinking of what I can have done next. I like the idea of having my rook done but my sister has had nothing but trouble with hers
