SETTING LOTION - wasn't there something about it on here?!

JodieHarsh · 14/10/2012 09:55

I spent about 20 minutes curling my hair with tongs last night - hairsprayed that thing to hell, and it looked amazing for about an hour and was poker straight by the time I made it home Sad

I am sure I read something about Old Lady Setting Lotion on here - just the stuff you get from the local chemist for about 1.50 - but I can't find the discussion!

Did I dream this? Has anyone used setting lotion? Does anyone know how to make curls stay?

THANKS in advance Thanks

I didn't use setting lotion cos there wasn't any to be had in Whitechapel Sainsbo's on a Sunday afternoon. WHO KNEW.

I saturated my head with mousse, and then did the whole pin curl thing (which incidentally looks very fetching WHEN IT'S PINNED). Then blasted it with the hairdryer, which in retrospect might've been a bridge too far.

I unpinned it and behold, Worzel Gummidge in Bare Minerals and eyeliner

I think I am just going to have to have an UP-DO for the Big Event, which is a crying shame since I will thus remember a walking pyramid

i found a hair dresser who can blow dry last week. BIG style

i am going to contact her and offer her cash in hand if she comes to my house to do it, its twent odd quid at the salon - would rather give her 15 direct

Pinot · 14/10/2012 17:41

Can you not... umm. Maybe if you....nope.

I've got nuttin'. Sorry Jodie. Dazzle em with your cleavage instead

FinallyMrsFC · 14/10/2012 20:01

I think your problem is the mousse, it's just too... fierce. I reckon go for the pin curls again, but try something like [[http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/221136314607?var=lv

CockBollocks · 14/10/2012 20:33

Mousse is baaaaaad and will give you crispiness Smile especially when heated!!

I'm not sure tongs are a good idea with settting lotion either.

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 07:15

I HAVE A PRETTY BINCE!!!!! Grin

I used the mousse (agree it's not the best thing...Imma look for something else), and did pin curls like the nice vintage ladies said.

The pin curls are v. easy and it only took about 10 minutes to do about 12 curls, which is loads faster than bloody tongs. I tied a silk scarf over them, as per the nice vintage ladies, but it came off: pins stayed in beautifully overnight though.

ANY ROADS UP, woke up in great excitement and took out the pins and behold the biggest head of frizz you ever did see. I panicked not, but gave it a good firm brush, and the frizz turned into these amazing deep 50s curls! I have put some Moroccan Oil through to smooth and gleam and stuff, though I think some serum would be better.

So I am going to work with this, basically!

I will report back on how long they stay in, but at the mo, Pin Curls are now my bitch.

Thanks all! Thanks

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 09:10

HAAAAAAAAA I have just updated my profile pic to show me post crispy-bince yesterday - as you can see it has been brushed out and hastily put up (I had to do a shot for a leaflet thingy for an event wotsit).

Hang on I might try and take a pic on m'phone now and message it to you

Nooooooo phone dying Sad Sad

I intend to keep doing pin curls until I have it to a fine art, so you'll see a pic in due course!

Where did you find out how to pin curl? I tried one YouTube video but my efforts were an epic fail.

I luffs 50s hair and want a pretty bince too

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 10:12

You too shall have a pretty bince, *Eager!!

I looked at a few blogs, including this one and this one.

From my (very) limited experience, you need to:

Wash and almost-dry your hair, having used some species of mousse/setting lotion/stuff

Section into surprisingly large bits - I have thick hair just about touching the shoulders and did about 12 curls.

Form into a large loop, probably about 1.5-2 inches across. Much larger than you'd think. Don't scroll them, twist them, or wind them around anything, just make a nice circle. Try to think about how the curl is moving (ie, away from your face, towards your face, away from the parting etc.)

Pin totally flat to your head with a couple of kirby grips.

Go to bed.

Wake up.

Take the pins out.

FRIZZMONSTER NIGHTMARE! Quelle Horreur!

Don't panic. Brush it with wide-toothed brush or comb. The frizz will sort of settle into big deep waves.

Use serum or oil or whatevs.

Bingo!

I want a pretty/crispy bince. My bince is shit at the mo courtesy of an atrocious cunt of a hairdresser.

catinwitchyboots · 15/10/2012 10:19

It's almost as bad as The MN Cut of 2010

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 10:41

You too can have a pretty bince Cat! Let us not give in to rubbish binces!

I too have suffered at the hands of an atrocious cunt hairdresser.

She gave me this, only with a MUCH shorter and thicker fringe, which would be bad enough even if I didn't look and dress a bit like a dispirited Victorian laundrywoman Hmm

Love it!!! Dispirited Victorian Laundrywoman!!

MaBaya · 15/10/2012 11:57

Oh I just dont get it!

MaureenCognito · 15/10/2012 12:46

AFTER HOURS PROWLING around boots i found one pink thing. I have bought. the ladies thought this was hilarious at the till.
wait till i attack them with my rock hard helmet hair

MaureenCognito · 15/10/2012 12:47

those pin curls photos look TERRIBLE! you WANT your hair like this?
weirdos

Pinot · 15/10/2012 13:39

Don't scroll them, twist them, or wind them around anything, just make a nice circle

What?

Scrolling is making a circle, no? Whataddayamean?

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 13:47

They do not look terrible Mo don't be beastly Grin

You don't walk around with a hair covered in circles or nuffink.

Er. Yes Pin you are right. I think I mean scrolling as in rolling it into a tube, as it were, around an invisible foamy roller. Know what I mean? Because I'm not at all sure I do

OP posts:
Pinot · 15/10/2012 13:49

So I do do a scroll? I make scrolly circles and get bouffy hair? ACE.

MaureenCognito · 15/10/2012 13:53

i bluddy love JOdie

JodieHarsh · 15/10/2012 13:54

Yeah! like spirals and stuff. I like it - because this is the first attempt & I didn't have any serum it's not the most glossy and tidy affair. but my word the BOUFFE on that thing!
