I'm going to cut all of my hair off then give it to charity

I've decided (I think!) to have all of my below shoulder length hair cut off, then to give it to a children's charity for it to be made into wigs.

I think I've seen this mentioned on MN before, and I think that the hair has to be cut off in a certain way in order to make this possible. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm hoping that the annoying thing about my hair for me (that there's so bloody much of it) can be turned into a good thing for someone else .

Thanks OldLady! It sounds like my hair might not be used in the way that I thought, but I think I'll do it anyway and keep my fingers crossed.
