I just need your general advice on nice non frumpy shoes to wear for evening because I just can't walk in heels that high.

I've seen some mid height style shoes (court shoes ), what I would call classic stilleto, but they look so frumpy to me next to those high shoes.

Can't help you there, I have resigned myself to frumpy shoes. High shoes make me walk funny and generally have a bad night out, so I've given up.

Maybe a classic style in a leopard print or colour?

I got a pair of Manolo party shoes a few years ago for Christmas, they look beautiful but the last time I wore them they actually made me cry

My most comfortable heels are from M&S, so I'd have a look there

I thought I couldn't walk in heels, but I've got some Irregular Choice ones in which I can. They have quite a chunky heel and a strap over the top of the foot so are really comfy. And they are lined in velvet, which helps.

They are still very high.

You could wear high heels with a platform sole - then they wouldn't really be as high as they give the impression of being, iyswim. Or maybe a block heel.
