Really really comfy boots for winter?

Hi all! Hoping to pick the collective MN brain once again.

I'm due to have DC1 in early December and am anticipating lots of long wintertime walks with pram.

I need some really comfortable boots to wear, mainly with skirts and black opaque tights.

My wishlist:

• Won't leak in the rain
• Leather or suede (prefer suede, but only if it stands up to the weather)
• Probably black to blend with tights, but will consider dark browns if lovely
• Knee length or ankle length best as I have quite short and chunky calves and would prefer to avoid being cut off mid calf
• Maybe a tiny heel for a bit of a height boost, but comfort is more important
• Warm - maybe sheepskin lined?

But the main thing is they need to be super comfortable.

I quite like the look of these Broome III by Ugg but don't know if they would be comfy, and they are vair vair expensive. And do they just look like wellies?

Any suggestions very welcome!

quite - I've got the oslos. I reckon they are true to size for a winter boot, in that they are roomy enough to wear thick socks.

Having said that, they are very warm anyway, so you can get away with thinnish socks if you don't like hot feet. So, in that case, they probably run a touch large.

Have I just confused the issue?!

Thanks Notjustamummy, it does sound like I would need my usual size 7 then. Unfortunately it is the size 8 which is only £45 the 7's are £90! So was hoping they would come up small.

How about a size 8 and thick insoles?

Humph well the Rocket Dog ones arrived and I'm not that keen. They have a big square toe which I'd stupidly failed to notice on the online pictures.

The hunt continues... think I will order some of the Merrell ones next.

I got my Dune Polar boots the other day, they are really comfy and warm although haven't tested them to see if they are waterproof enough for the school run!

e just bought a pair of Gabor boots from Jones. The style is Valero, £160, in brown or black, comfy to walk in, flat but not completely flat, and smart. I woudl 100% recommend.

Got lovely boots from Crocs last year, not the welly type ones, they are suede. Not too expensive at £70, sooo comfy and look nice, although they are pretty flat.

I have ordered a few off Amazon (incl a couple of Merrells) so will see how those turn out, then investigate other options!

I lived in my CAT Annas last year, they are not so technical as some of the others suggested but they are fur lined, leather (mine have never leaked and I've worn them in heavy rain and snow), and I like the way they look. They do knock a bit on my skinny ankles (though fit my much larger calves fine, don't think they would be tight on you) but I just wear extra sockage to avoid rubbing.

In fact I am wearing them today over skinnies as I've conceded it's no longer summer...

Right, of all the ones I ordered from Amazon, the best by some distance are the Merrell Yarra.

So, they are staying and all the others are going back.

The Yarras are quite small though, I bought half a size up from normal and they are snug (though hopefully less so in a few months once I am no longer heavily pregnant and the sheepskin's flattened down a bit).

I still like the Clarks Norley Wood/Norley Cedar, might get some of those as well if I can justify it.

Also going to check out Crocs as they have a shop near my office.

I got merrell Taigas last year. Unbelievable warmth, comfort and style. Boots for life :)

Asos have river island biker boots down from 80 to 20 and I love them!

FitFlop boots are the business!!! I have the furlined Mukluk and the knee length suede ones. Can't rate highly enough for comfort. Uggs are lovely too but too flat (for my feet) for walking outside in.

I like the Fitflop Mukluk ones annie but my mum has a pair and the seam has started to come apart, which put me off a bit as I do tend to treat shoes pretty badly so I need something robust!

Celtic sheepskin do a beautiful full length boot. Sorry can't do link.

I tried these on at the weekend in Ecco and they remind me of the Ugg Broome IIIs. Very comfy, fur lined, really simple sleek design (unlike most Ecco shoes), hardy suede. They come up on the large side.

Also Camper boots are good.

I think the Merrell boots are vile, only acceptable for a country walk.

Thanks to this thread and the many other mentions of them I was about to spend £80 on Merrell Oslo boots (sold out in size 6 at most other outlets mentioned in this thread but I found them at: USC.

However, I've just been told by a friend that Merrell are (a) narrow and not good for people with bunions/wide feet and (b) the soles are renowned for not being very grippy.

What I'm looking for: waterproof, grippy winter boots for outdoor wear. I live somewhere that has snow on the ground for at least 8 weeks each winter, and will want to use them as snow boots in the mountains too, as well as for rainy/cold/frosty/windswept days doing the school run. And I don't want them to look too much like walking boots. And they need to be black to match my lovely waterproof coat.

Can anyone please advise?

I have those boots and I think they come up quite large. I have wide size 8 feet and the size 8 are a bit big for me. The soles are very grippy! I think your friend is mistaken!
