Something to keep eyeshadow in place

My mum keeps harping on about an Estee Lauder cream that she used to buy about 20 years ago that she applied to her eyelids before putting her eyeshadow, and it used to keep the eyeshadow in place and intensify the colour, and made it look good all day.

What is such a product called, even if it isn't by Estee Lauder? And can anyone recommend one please?

Eye primer? MUA do one, that is quite cheap, but really good. No7 also do one (think theirs is called eyeshadow base), and is nice & creamy - but - it is quite pink, whereas the MUA one is more yellowy, so gives a nice neutral base, and shows the eyeshadows in their true colours.

I know others talk about Urban Decay eye primer as being good, but I've never bought it.

The urban decay one is v good, I've used it a lot and it definitely works

Urban decay primer potion is pretty good. Benefit used to do a fab one called f y eye but I think it's been discontinued, a friend of mine uses benefit lemon aid as a primer.

Urban Decay primer potion kept my bright turquoise eye shadow pretty well in place yesterday after a lot of crying. Put it all over your lid and leave it for at least 5 minutes to dry before you apply your eye shadow.

I have a Mac one - it is called 'Paints'. Works really well.

Another vote for Urban Decay Primer Potion. It's amazing. Plus you get a small bottle that lasts ages free with their amazing Naked eyeshadow palette.

I have a Laura Mercier eye primer. Works a treat at holding eye shadow.

Another vote for urban decay primer potion

Urban decay primer potion. No creasing even after 18hrs

I know what I'm getting after my current one has been used up!

Nars eye primer is supposed to be excellent, I've not tried it yet though as it's in my order from that bunch of incompetents at Liberty. Urban Decay Primer Potion works really well but I'd be sure to get the original, colourless version rather than the beigey-nudey .

I've used the Estée Lauder one your mum is talking about. It was a lilac colour, in a little tube? it was ok but my eyeshadow still came off.

I bought the urban decay one last month after hearing about it on here and it is amazing! In fact my eyeshadow is still there the next morning slovenly

Would massively recommend it. I got a twin pack of the original plus a champagne coloured one that I have started wearing on its own. They are fab.

Are any of these hypoallergenic, my eyes are dreadful with everything that isn't. Such a nuisance.

musicalmum40 · 21/02/2013 00:18

Do they keep eyeliner on? Please say yes! Even on my wedding day I had panda eyes where it had gone South!

FaffTastic · 21/02/2013 00:21

Love both the Laura Mercer and Nars eye primers. Haven't tried the Urban Decay one though.

Mabelface · 21/02/2013 00:24

Musical mum - if you use kohl on your lower eye line, use a bit of powder first, then your kohl, then fix in place with a bit of eyeshadow the same colour. Should last all day then.

musicalmum40 · 22/02/2013 19:09

Thanks madlizzy will give it a go!
