Can anyone recommend a nice pair of boots to wear with straight leg jeans, for a tight budget?

Last year I was in long boots and skinnies but this year I'm more into straight legs and jeans. I'm not quite sure what boots to wear with straight legs though? Is it ok to wear ankle boots with straight legs over the top? I stopped wearing ankle boots due to 'mumboot' fears. But are they ok as long as not worn with boot legs?

For example, I already have these from a few years ago. Would they be ok with straight legs over the top? Or am I supposed to tuck the jeans into the boots? So confused about all of this.

Think straight legs look best with casual converse type shoes. They can look a bit mumsy with boots. You can also roll up straight legs and wear with heeled courts, in a neon or cobalt colour perhaps?

With your boots from your link, I'd do cropped skinnies (aka 7/8ths), probably in coloured denim.
