Eyeliner help please!

I am very pale and have grey-blue eyes. I look really washed out without make up and usually stick to mascara, with black eyeliner on top lid if I have more time (ie. when going out), which looks fine.

I want to define my eyes a bit more - I suppose sort of like this and this - but don't really know how. Eyeshadow? Pencil eyeliners? Black looks good but too much for daytime, bronzy colours are awful on me, grey makes me look like a goth / Marc Almond (someone actually told me this about 25 years ago, I've been scarred for life).

I need help from some eye make up experts please!!

I'm no expert on applying eye make up but when I wanted to create a smoky eye look recently I went on to YouTube and found a tutorial which was very easy to replicate. In fact, most of the things I have tried recently with hair and make up have been inspired by YouTube tutorials.

What about navy or green for the eyeliner? I got a great gel liner from Bobbi Brown in a deep green that is more flattering than black. You could go to a make up counter and ask what products would help you achieve this look.

When googling/you tubing look up "tight lining" it defines the eyes really well. You can use a brush with cake eyeliner which you wet (Laura mercier do a specially designed one) or just use a soft eyeliner pencil which I find works well and is less faff!

Oh and in those pics SM has eyeliner on her waterline top and bottom. This suits some people better than others depending on your eye shape. I hate the feeling of putting liner there and finds it wears off quickly but I know for others it works brilliantly.

Your colouring sounds a lot like mine. I use a brown-black eyeliner and mascara and use more in the evening - less harsh than black on the skin, but tricky to find a properly muddy one without too much brown in

I always soften my eyeliner with a little eye make up brush I've got a tiny Ruby and Millie brush I use :)

I'm blonde with blue-grey eyes but not pale as I tan easily. Got my colours "done" a few years ago and was advised to stay away from brown (too "warm" for my complexion) - I find that a dark charcoal grey eyeliner and black mascara work best for me.

Boots No 7 smoky powder liner in brown is good, easy to use (for a thick or thinnish line) and really stays put

Ooh, I had the same quest! Same skin tone and eye colour as you. Maybelline have two new products to create the look you want. The photos of these products make them seem very severe. They aren't, just exceptionally well-defined and very easy to control the definition, thickness, subtlety or drama of the look. Sometimes eye make-up is hard for me to control and it looks heavy-applied. These have stopped that and provide a natural for day or dramatic for night 'polished' look.

First you take this big chunky eye pencil and draw a thick line on the upper lid. Leave it thick and powerful or use the eraser to soften it. You can also blend it up the eyelid to create the illusion of shadow above the liner. That's handy because you don't need a separate shadow/ The precision point of the pencil means it will draw a thinner, delicate-but-defined line on the lower lid too. It's a massive chunky thing but able to make very delicate lines too.

Then follow it with this matching mascara. It's great and highlights every lash. And another bonus is that you feel very 'in charge' of the liner: thickness, smudging, definition, you can have it subtle or dramatic and so on. I'm extremely pale and this combination really brightens my eyes. I've tried kohl, gel, liquid, from cheap to Chanel and I'm so happy to finally have easy, defined eye makeup. I got mine last week on a 2 for £10 deal in Superdrug.

On the rare occasion that I do use eyeshadow, the original Naked palette from Urban Decay is just perfection, a good balance of matte/sparkly and light/dark shades. Sorry for enormous post, I'm just enthusiastic at finally finding the right products for me. Hope this helps!

Aubergine coloured eyeliner would look good, as would a deep blue (there's more than just navy around now). Olive green a possibility. Lancôme's colour range is good.

Thank you! Bought a charcoal grey eyeliner this morning dancingqueen and will check out the No 7 one too, thank you Families. Also interested in the idea of colours... need to go and check some blues and aubergines out.

Yay, let us know how you get on! I'm liking the idea of aubergine and deep blue too, think they would work for me too.

Charcoal grey works really well. Have checked out Maybelline but they don't have those new products yet where I am.

I got a blue - navy - and it doesn't work at all with my colouring, not quite sure why, but made me look really rough!
