Ok, where is the brilliant 'Warm and waterproof coat' thread from last year? I need another one.

I bought an amazing coat by Didriksons last year on the advice of a MNetter here who worked in the industry. She gave the BEST advice but I can't find the thread now. Basically she explained how warm AND waterproof is a hard combination to come by because we're the only country with such a wet and cold climate and no one designs for us. Nice.

I bought the coat for DS but ended up wearing it myself, now I need to buy him one of his own before he gets soaked to the skin!

My Barbour arrived this morning - it is soooo toasty and warm and flattering.

It is definitely only a bum coverer though - so if you are tall and looking for something long enough to properly cover your bottom then it isn't the coat for you.

Wimba I love the fit of that welligogs coat! very vivienne westwood. such a shame it has no hood.

cakeoholic · 27/09/2012 11:29

accessorieshelp the didrikson Taylor is available to preorder here though only in black, dark green and purple. Says they take delivery of stock on 1st October which is Monday, not too long. Maybe other stores will get it around then too and you can get the navy.

If money is no object then outnoth will ship to uk but total cost is EUR380.80

ihearthuckabees · 27/09/2012 11:41

The Merrell Wakefield is only £79.95 here, although it will depend on whether if you live near one of the stores. www.gooutdoors.co.uk/merrell-wakefield-womens-waterproof-jacket-p102789

bionicmummy · 27/09/2012 12:03

I'm trying hard to find a warm waterproof coat when I'm totally skint. Finding a good one under £40 is near impossible. Ebay is not helping :(

messagetoyourudy · 27/09/2012 12:42

Arrrgghh I wish I had never seen this thread! I really would like the Merrell Wakefield in charcoal, but not so keen on the new Ellenwood as the detailing isn't the same (it looks a bit plain)

Anyway can't seem to find one anywhere? I guess because they are now old stock?

I have now wasted nearly 2 hours, still all to no avail!

Piemistress · 27/09/2012 12:58

Wish I hadnt dipped on this thread! What seems to be the difference between the Didrikson Rebecca, Taylor and Veronica? Wish there was a shop nearby to try them on!

spiderlight · 27/09/2012 13:18

Alibaba Does the Barbour Redesdale have a shaped/adjsutable waist like the photo suggests? I was seriously lusting after one but then a poster on here called hers 'boxy and shapeless' last week and was sending it back, so I wasn't sure how realistic the photo was. Also, is it shiny? Thanks!

spiderlight · 27/09/2012 13:22

*adjustable

Lozislovely · 27/09/2012 13:38

Well my ellenwood has arrived today. No where near as bulky as I thought it would be, good length, smart enough for work and great for casual. Lovely and warm, quite flattering too thanks to the toggles so the waist can be cinched in.

Not as detailed as last years Wakefield but I'm happy with it and expect to get loads of wear out of it. Wish I'd found one years ago!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/09/2012 13:49

spider - yes, it has an internal drawstring at the waist. It is shiny, but not full anorak shiny - does that make sense?!

Kopparbergkate · 27/09/2012 14:07

Thanks again those who linked to the yummy mummy and Jo Jo Maman maternity coats. I emailed and asked both how waterproof the coats were.. the upshot is they're not... the Mamalicious ones are "generally shower proof" but not waterproof. And the Jo Jo one is not showerproof. Where are the coats for preggos who want to go out in the rain Sad

I really like the Merrell ooats - do you reckon if I sized up I could get a bump inside or is the shape totally wrong?

DorisIsWaiting · 27/09/2012 14:12

Ha Ha HA just clicked your link kiwidreamer

I really like the naomi

BrianButterfield · 27/09/2012 14:14

No way could you get a bump in a Haven, I'm afraid. It's really fitted.

Whoever asked where I got mine, it was from outdoors mania, £99, cause I need a small size and I wanted a black one.

spiderlight · 27/09/2012 14:21

Thanks Alibabaa! Damn - now I really want it again. I'd talked myself out of it on the grounds that it cost more than our last car, but it's an investment really, isn't it...?

kiwidreamer · 27/09/2012 14:23

I still really like the Naomi too, I was keen on the Merrell Wakefield but after a few days of looking I'm definitely more smitten with the Naomi. My Lands End tweed coat was a total bust so that's going back, fingers x'd for the Naomi :)

cakeoholic · 27/09/2012 14:23

messagetoyourudy and anyone wanting a merrell wakefield before 3pm click here never heard of the site but maybe someone else has? Says the colour is charcoal heather? Not sure if that's what colour you were looking for messagetoyourudy?

cakeoholic · 27/09/2012 14:29

outdoormania have a few merrell wakefields too; black in 8, 16 and 18, tuscan heather in 8 and 16, ink heather in a 16 and charcoal in a 16 for £119 (£122.95 inc delivery)

nellyjelly · 27/09/2012 14:38

Ooooh just got a bargain. Been following thread and while I love the Ellenwood and Wakefield they are a bit expensive for me and actually want a waterproof downcoat tbh. Found a Lands End one doe £160 which was going to order but popped inyo TK Maxx before and got a Merrell Darbie which is last seasons but exactly what I want. Sold for £195 last yr and got for £60 today. V pleased.

They had some lovely Fit Flop leater ankle boots too but couldn't justify it!

AWimbaWay · 27/09/2012 14:39

Kopparbergkate, when I was pregnant I wore a cape similar to this Not very glamorous but very practical, easy to throw on on top of layers then packed away into a bag.

Kopparbergkate · 27/09/2012 15:00

Oh God, no offence but I REALLY don't want to wear a cape. My norks have gone up to a 34kk (same as last pregnancy). Last time I wore big mans shirts and things that just hung off my bust and I felt fat, frumpy and spherical.
One of the things I promised myself was that this time I would buy fewer clothes but actually proper maternity clothes that defined a difference between bust and tummy. I know it's vain and I've contradicted myself anyway by suggesting sizing up on the Merrell, but I'd like to look and feel pregnant this time, even when out and about, rather than like a butterball Sad

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/09/2012 15:37

Koppar I found that a man's waterproof jacket was the only thing by the end!

I had a nice mac from Crave which did pretty well on the waterproof front but it had no hood which was a PITA when pushing the buggy as I couldn't manage buggy and brolly!

ShabbyChit · 27/09/2012 15:43

I recently bought this coat from H&M which is very warm and snuggly and waterproof!
Have been wearing it the last couple of weeks when walking dog - oncegot caught in torrential downpour and stayed nice and snug inside! (dog however was a different story) Grin
