So I went into COS yesterday...

...fully expecting none of the clothes to look good on a 5ft1, chubby curvy 34 year old and was proved completely wrong.

It all seems a bit intimidating with their oh so cool cuts and anally colour-coordinated rails. But I grabbed 6 things and realised that they're cut really well.

This green dress was the standout. Not remotely breastfeeding friendly though. Should I buy it for when I've finished feeding is the question? Begs MNers not to buy it so that there's plenty in stock in the sale...

This jumper is just beautiful.

Too wacky for me fine knit boxy top but bizarrely flattering.

Simple but stylish dress.

I didn't leave with much as the things I really liked were not BFing friendly. I'm definitely going back though!

Shit, I'm 35 aren't I...

That's interesting. Last time I wandered in there I was too intimidated to try anything on! Must be braver next time.

FreeButtonBee · 20/09/2012 18:42

Also quite like it although I am PG so the crazee seems to help drape over bulges and bumps.

Got this and it's really flattering on grey dress am 5"2 and busty and it's awesome for work/funked up for pub with ankle boots/ dressed down with flats for weekend.

Also black merino wool dress with leather belted bits that tie over the tummy www.cosstores.com/Store/Women/Dresses/Wool_dress_with_belt/46881-2091450.1#c-3464812. Somehowmtheir stuff is all v versatile and despite looking like it'd only suit 6" tall descendants of Vikings, it's much more flattering than you'd expect.

Kaloobear · 20/09/2012 18:45

The black dress in your OP I have a version of from years ago-excellent quality and it still looks great!

QueenBeebread · 20/09/2012 18:55

Ooh I like the grey dress FreeButtonBee.

I wish I'd had the nerve to try them years ago!

So. The dilemma. Should I buy the green dress that I love? I won't be able to use it as I'm currently breastfeeding but planning to stop Jan/Feb-ish. Am hoping to be a size smaller by then so would order a size down...

FreeButtonBee · 20/09/2012 19:09

Do you really really love it? Or a passim infatuation? Be honest!!

monkeysmama · 20/09/2012 20:33

I really like it. I'm bfing too and will be for ages yet. But I have a few dresses for days I've expressed etc.

QueenBeebread · 20/09/2012 21:18

It was more the shock of not expecting it to look any good at all, then putting it on and an OMG moment. The colour is one I've never worn and really suited me, it hung well, made me look stylish etc etc.

I think I love it.

Hmm.

I love that dress too queenbee it is amazing. If you love it buy it. What length was it on you? I am taller than you and was thinking of getting it to wear with skinnies and ankle boots perhaps like more of a jumper dress than dress.

lurkingaround · 20/09/2012 22:13

I love the green dress. Saw a similar one on someone lately, it was gorgeous, with an edge, on her. Love it.

I really like Cos, but you have to try on everything. Website is shite and everything looks like it's made for boys but it's not. As you say OP, bizarrely flattering.

I have 2 circle tops, and on even my pear shape, they are great. DSis has these. She is '30-no kids' in them (over 40 irl). They are amazing on her.

It can be intimidating (been there) if you're having a feeling frumpy day but it's worth breaking thru that barrier! Some gems there.

Meglet · 20/09/2012 22:20

They're only in London so far Sad.

QueenBeebread · 20/09/2012 22:57

Enablers! Grin

I have a feeling it will sell out, so am not going to sit on my hands.

There. Bought it. Don't tell DH.

Justasecond it sat just above my knee, so perfect dress length for me. It is more forest green than olive (which is how it's described on the website) BTW.

Lurking I saw the side zip trews and they looked great. Nice holdy-inny thick-but-stretchy fabric. I will definitely be in the market for them when I've lost a bit more weight.

You are so right about trying stuff on. I had no clue from the website or the hanger that any of it would look half decent. Next time I'm going to grab about 10 things randomly and see how they look.

cazboldy · 20/09/2012 23:03

that last dress in your OP looks like a school pinafore Grin

am i not "getting it"?....... Confused

trixymalixy · 20/09/2012 23:06

Um, there's a Cos in Glasgow!!

I really like the green dress with the leather pockets, get it !!

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 20/09/2012 23:18

You may find yourself with the dilemma I now face. I have three tops from Cos. I love them, feel amazing in them, get compliments every time I wear them.

What's the problem? Now everything else in my wardrobe looks lousy in comparison Sad

I've seen so many things on the website I want....

CointreauVersial · 20/09/2012 23:35

I had a nose round Cos in Amsterdam recently (while DH and the DCs were pedalling round the canals in the rain, in a pedalo which sadly only had four seats Grin).

I decided the styles just weren't me. Too minimalist, boxy and stark, sludgy colours...... Having said that, there were some nice basics, and the quality was lovely. I kept seeing people trying stuff on and looking great, but I just felt like I didn't belong.

I did try on that boxy jumper with the lime green trim. I really wanted to like it, but I just felt like Batman in it. The other day I saw it on that "Does my Bum Look 40?" blog, and she looked fab. Hmmm...

QueenBeebread · 20/09/2012 23:45

I know what you mean Cointreau. In my head it is far too cool for lil' old me but I am open to being persuaded by any garment which is well cut and suits me even if it looks like a pinafore Wink.

I didn't buy the swing jumper with the lime green thing because of the cape effect - too wacky for me and DH would have laughed, style guru that he is. But it actually looked marvellous which was a bit of a revelation, and I'd quite like to look marvellous Smile so will be going back. Especially with the likes of trixy cheering me on Wink.

I tried a green dress on yesterday with a sort of triple pleat at the neck and three quarter sleeves plan to go back for it. Love most ofthis winters stuff

TerraNotSoFirma · 21/09/2012 07:40

I love the grey dress that was linked to. Would a large fit a 14/16?

QueenBeebread · 21/09/2012 07:54

Terra I think there's a good chance. I'm a busty 12/14 and the medium fit well. The top part is jersey so it stretches, but there's a side zip so it is a bit more tailored than the jersey suggests IYSWIM.

OP posts:
FreeButtonBee · 21/09/2012 07:54

Yes, i got a medium and am a decent curvy size 12 and 19 wks PG with twins and it fits me. There is room for bump but it won't last the whole way through - it's just a really nice interim dress and i will wear it loads after as well i rckon

TerraNotSoFirma · 21/09/2012 08:08

Great :) its getting ordered then. Thanks.

poppy283 · 21/09/2012 08:12

I sometimes still think about the striped jersey jumpsuit I tried on in the regent st branch in 2008, why didn't I buy it?!

TerraNotSoFirma · 21/09/2012 08:22

Non-buyers remorse poppy
