What colour shoes or boots do I need to buy. I'm not sure Brown is right either.

nude they go with everything and anything.

Brown is fine but only as long as it is not a shade lighter than the trouser as a rule.

i know nothing of fashion. nude is lighter than brown.....i wore nude shoes with a brown/very dark purple patterned dress - did i commit a fashion sin? everyone else thought i looked ok.
i even got chatted up.

I mean if you have brown with brown it looks better if the darker colour is below generally. Nude is different imo. Your outfit sounds gorgeous raging

Trousers are proper brown, like a light mud Brown.

But black is a no isn't it?

I am going to end up with lots of coloured shoes to match the tops I wear with them aren't I?

I'm personally not a fan of black with brown, but not sure how widely held that preference is generally. If you could afford it I would look at it as a nice excuse to go shopping. If however you are like me and have a nil clothing budget currently :( I would put it out of my mind and do the best with what I had despite what people may think.
