Make up gurus: help me with nude lipsticks?

I just can't seem ever to get the right shade. I want something right on the boundary of cool pink/nude, kinda like Kate Silverton off of that there telly news always look like she's wearing. It needs to be deep enough with lots of pigment so as not to look like I'm just a bit ill Grin, but it can't be too brown.

I suit plummy, cool colours but whenever I try to buy one I get it wrong and end up with something sugary and too pale (like some 80s throwback), or violet (like some 60s weirdo).

Can anybody help? I don't mind paying a bit for the right shade, and I know it shouldn't be rocket science - you just, er, look at them right, and try them on. But I just CANNOT get it right and there should be a nude shade that suits me right?

'mauve-pink-nude': that's a good description...

Quite often those on tv have lipstick combinations. They will have a different colour on the edges of their lips to the colour in the centre of the lips (paler in the centre to give the illusion of plump poutiness). You can get a similar effect if you dab a bit of concealer onto your bottom lip once you've applied lipstick, blend and then apply another layer of lipstick over the top. If you're going out you can do the same with a dab of sparkly eyeshadow

I don't think real people can carry off 'real' nudes. Rock star/model types can wear these cos they have makeup artists who do lots of faffing. Us normals have to go a teeny bit deeper toned. I've been on a My Lips But Better kick for a while, the Urban Decay one is the nicest.

Next on my list is Mac Syrup or Lancôme Pale Lip. Can you tell I get obsessions? Blush

I stand corrected Grin

Corpses bride

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 20/09/2012 00:56

I suit the same as you OP....I have Bobbi Browns Blondie Pink...tis not pink at all. Is a cool shade of neutral beigey nothingness.

I am pale and brunette....I only suit cold colours. It looks great!

One of the best lip liners I have bought is from Body Shop - I cant remember the name but it is quite a natural lip colour, might even be called nude and it blends nicely with lipsticks of all colours. you dont get that weird 80's look. Grin

bigfatlegs That lipstick would look corpse bride on me! I suppose that is the issue with 'nude' colours.

Honestly OP, try Clinique I bet you find one you love.

Nars Dolce Vita is a mauvey nude.
Clinique Delovely.
Revlon Nude Attitude.
there's a new Chanel - Chic - it's more of a shimmer, gorgeous though.

Pencil - either allover the lip, or not at all.
You don't want the line look.

Clarins do some lovely, barely there sheeny lippies. I've gone from Bobbi Brown plummy ones which were too "hard" on me, to "nudes" which made me look ill and now, I'm at delicate pinks.

Favourite is Clarins Petal Pink ( or, it might be Pink Petal) can't read the label as can't find glasses! Lovely shade tho, and they do loads of 'em!

tabbycat15 · 20/09/2012 10:54

Clinique long last soft shine lipstick in creamy nude or blushing nude.

Body Shop in Clover Pink (No 6) is a dark mouth shade (I wore it to get married Aaaaaaahhh).
Body Shop lip pencil in Birch.

knitknack · 20/09/2012 12:05

I think you want a 'my lips but better' shade, or 'mlbb'. If you seach that you'll find lots of bloggers with lots of different colourings showing off theirs which might help y ou!

valiumredhead · 20/09/2012 12:49

GOSH in Superdrug make a nice one.

Lovewearingjeans · 20/09/2012 13:16

I would say Mac or Bobbi Brown for service and advice, and you can try different shades until you find your perfect one.
