Can I die it?

I brought a mac from H&M sale which is red because I wanted something that was a bright lovely colour. However in the 6 months since I brought it I've worn it probably 3 times as red just isn't a colour that fits into my wardrobe very well.

I've since decided I would like a coat in a berry colour a bit like this do you think I could die the red coat or will it ruin it?

you need to check the fabric content as a start point.

I don't know, I wonder if I could turn my bright mustard one a nice chocolate brown.

Bought in M&S sale and a much brighter colour in daylight than it looked in the shop. Have also only dated wear it a few times.

Fabric needs to be natural (i.e. cotton). Polycotton will do but not as intense.

The other thing to be aware of is that it is highly likely that the threads used on the garment are polyester and will not dye at all. If there is any stitching detail visible it is highly likely that it will remain red.

ok well it's H&M and it cost me about £15 so it's not going to be the best quality fabric. I don't think it would matter if the stiching stayed red as the coat would be much darker so I don't think you'd notice.

I don't wear it at all at the moment so I guess I've got nothing to lose by trying it.

Don't forget that you only need blue dye to make it purple (basic colour rules). You won't be able to control the colour totally, but worth a shot.

Follow any pretreatment instructions carefully.
