I'm having mine long forever. When it starts looking silly I'll wear it up. I just look fugly with it short.

Viviennemary · 19/09/2012 12:19

It depends on your hair and how you wear it. Long straggly hair unkempt doesn't even look nice on 20 year olds. If you're 90 and want long hair then I'd say why not. snowy white hair in a bun type style looks really nice.

CoatyWoaty · 19/09/2012 12:22

OMG- you are 34 woman. have you seen Twiggy and Jerry Hall lately? Women in their 60s.

Sorry but I am just dismayed that at 34 you are even thinking old. it's frightening that you are :(

Caerlaverock · 19/09/2012 12:39

Jerry hall is terrifying her hair looks like that of an old Barbie that has bee enthusiastically washed and brushed by a little girl for 5 years

madmomma · 19/09/2012 12:42

greenhill where do you live?!

Eliza22 · 19/09/2012 13:06

I agree.....Jerry Hall does need something doing with her hair. But it's a big part of her Jerry-ness, I think!

greenhill · 19/09/2012 13:15

madmomma or a town with a significant number of Pakistani women in colourful, traditional clothes. Imagine beautiful scarves, embroidery, bejewelled sandals and expensive sunglasses.

madmomma · 19/09/2012 16:11

Ah gotcha. Lovely. My dh and his family is pakistani but they all have shortish hair. They do have fabulous thick shiny hair though - hope my dcs inherit it.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/09/2012 16:21

I have longish hair, just touching my shoulders .
I'm 52 .
My hair is straight , brown and shiny .
I have the odd white hair .
My theory is that I will decide if and when I'm too old for long hair .
Then I'll book myself in for the blue rinse and the cauliflower perm .

quirrelquarrel · 19/09/2012 16:28

But 35 is young! Shock keep your hair woman

I think long hair looks great on anyone. My 99 year old great grandmother has gorgeous pure white hair which is thick enough to be pulled back into a chignon every day and no scalp to show. I saw her with it all down around her shoulders one morning and I thought- wow, she's really pretty! It made her look younger.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/09/2012 16:29

I am 45 and my hair is down to my nipples I'd say :)

I love my hair, it's in good condition and is definitely my crowning glory. I get complimented on it all the time and I don't feel too old for it at all.

Having said that, I have begged my hairdresser to tell me the moment I'm puching it. So far so good

CoteDAzur · 19/09/2012 16:36

I'm 41 and have a thick mane of long hair (under bra strap) cut in layers. It looks great when professionally blow-dried, and it looks great when left to dry on its own and forms locks.

I have no idea why you would think I should cut it because of my age. Aside from the odd wrinkle, I look pretty much the same as I did before kids, and I'm the same dress size as 10 years ago. I run regularly.

Why would I consider myself old, let alone too old to wear my hair long? Confused

TheOneWithTheHair · 19/09/2012 17:48

I'm so glad you all feel like this. I'm 35 and I love my hair. I think I've decided to keep it long forever! Grin

MissBoPeep · 19/09/2012 20:12

I wasn't saying J Hall had good hair- but the point really was that 34 is just sooooooooo young.

Isn't it funny how you only realise how "old" is still young when you are so much older?

I think of 34 yr olds as barely out of uni- well just 10 years or so- nothing!

Pixiepie · 24/09/2012 15:56

Well im 44 and have just recently grown my hair long this year!!! :) Its past my shoulders. I have had it cut so its neat and love the ability to wear it up and down thats why i have kept it long. I do straighten it so its silky and shiny but i do think on a bad day i look like crap!! but then, i probably look like crap with short hair on a bad day!! I do worry it makes me look older but i do think that getting it short just because of your age is a huge mistake. Its all what the individual suits and not just because someone says you are 'too old.' My dh also says that a bob is typical of those 40 somethings....so there you go Unless you wish to follow the sheep be an individual and be honest with what suits you!

SunshineOutdoors · 24/09/2012 21:24

I love the woman in the I think it's m and s advert. She's older than the other models in the ad with gorgeous long hair and looks amazing

ouryve · 24/09/2012 21:30

I know someone in her 60s with long hair and it's thick and lovely and looks beautiful.

OTOH, apart from when pregnant and really fat faced, I've had mine really short since my late 20s because it's wiry and just grows outwards, rather than down. Plus it suits me short

ouryve · 24/09/2012 21:34

Oh, and DH is 39, next week, and has gorgeous long hair :o

BestIsWest · 24/09/2012 21:46

My friend, at 61, has her hair long. However, it is the most beautiful hair I've ever seen, thick wavy, shiny and a completely unusual tawny, honey, toffee, red colour that I've never seen on anyone else. And not a grey hair in sight. Mine is short and layered and I'm 49 FWIW.

Sleepthief · 24/09/2012 22:18

No such thing as too old, but there is definitely a case for too long. Waist-length hair is wrong on anyone other than Rapunzel. In my opinion Smile
