Explain these shoes to me...

...Surely they are the worst of both worlds?

Here

Is this a thing now?

So, let me see if I've got this right... They look like comfy (albeit hideous) trainers... Yet they feel uncomfortable like wearing heels. What?

If I'm going to go through the discomfort of heels, I think I'll have some, um, heels. No? Or is the patriarchy so powerful that women are now wearing heels even when nobody can see?

I'm so confused.

Are they not for short people?

Shakey1500 · 18/09/2012 21:53

Might it be to just discreetly add height? The equivalent of "stacks" (sp?) or whatever it is the likes of Tom Cruise wears?

Awful looking things anyway, IMO Grin

Bluestocking · 18/09/2012 21:55

It's mystifying. They look as though they were designed to conceal hooves or trotters. Perhaps someone more fashion-forward will be able to enlighten us?

Empusa · 18/09/2012 21:56

That really is totally the wrong way round! And I say that as a short arse!

tethersend · 18/09/2012 22:01

But if you want to add height why not just wear heels?

My brain in starting to hurt.

OP posts:
Shakey1500 · 18/09/2012 22:11

Because you don't want people to "see" the heel. For them to think you're naturally 5ft 9"? No idea, I'm just guessing.

notMarlene · 18/09/2012 22:26

Fuck they're ugly.

Quite a whack of a heel, 8cm. Is hard to get away with wearing that much heel in the day, is for twats people who want to look shit don't want to look like they're making an effort.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 18/09/2012 22:34

I think its because heels make your legs look leaner and longer hence a hidden heel in hightops that will be most likely worn with legging, skinnies.
I've got to say they are not for me but have seen people wearing them and I think they look better on.

tethersend · 18/09/2012 22:42

I think it's madness.

If it's sexy legs you're after, hi-top trainers are a poor sartorial choice.

OP posts:
FamiliesShareGerms · 18/09/2012 22:50

They are completely ugly shoes. And wrong on just about every level

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/09/2012 22:50

Hi-tops are a poor choice whatever. There is a rash of them appearing around here, and no-one looks good in them.

Those are a particularly vile specimen though, well done Grin

ja9 · 18/09/2012 22:51

Fascinating! Your own wee pair of disguised stilts!

ATourchOfInsanity · 18/09/2012 22:57

I think your OP is right - saw some boots in Elle or Style or something mag with the heels of some otherwise nice black knee high boots, completely covered by a flap of leather. Which, presumably, flaps! It looked a bit like a black goth stilt or a modern day foot binding device...
